Default Garden Update video clips

I took a walk around our yard and also discussed how the seedlings and transplanting are going.

I needed that tour Craig, as the snow pelts down here this morning. Most of the ground is back to brown except for the huge piles of snow out by the driveway that were put there by Jeff, my snowplow man.

So it was great to see something blooming and of course all your flats of this and that.

That dark lilac could well be Charles Jolie, check it out, an old one and when I moved here in 99 I had to buy some new lilacs and that was one of them.

You grow so much stuff that I would normally be sowing directly such as lettuce and beets and Swiss Chard, to name a few. Why do you do them as transplants first? Just curious.

You're having too much fun and enjoying what you're doing so why not retire permanently and maybe even think of looking for a permanent place, not at your home, where you could sell plants of this and that and you'd be in contact with folks who love to do the same as you b'c you're a people person, that I know.

And how about a video of new kitten/cat b'c I've loved the other ones.

Just as I'm typing this the ground is turning white. When Freda was here yesterday filling the bird feeders she brought in one white species crocus and three snowdrops, so I remain optimistic that Spring will arrive.

I am using a little Flip HD video - was really inexpensive - great little tool that I am finding to be very useful!

They have a new 8 GB version as well

Hey Carolyn! Glad you viewed the vid. I don't direct seed beets because they are not monogerm - and the thinning is a pain and I have so many weeds that they get lost - so I plant them just like tomatoes - 10 seeds to a 1.5 inch cell - gives me about 15 seedlings that I move to plug flats individually. Let them size up and use as transplants with even spacing in freshly prepared soil - did this for the first time last year and ended up with great beets! Lettuce and chard as well - I pre seed them because I am going to sell some as three plants to a pot this year. Ditto basil.

Branching out to test out some other things aside from the tomato/pepper/eggplant mix!

and thanks for the tip on the lilac - it is quite unique - it is not all that fragrant compared to others, the blooms are nearly doubled - it doesn't sucker - and doesn't get mildew. And the fast that it thrives in NC also makes it quite unusual.

We had hail yesterday. I'd much prefer lilacs.

Nice video, thanks for showing all your progress.

Nice video Craig- had to show my husband, just to prove I'm not the only one who "clogs up the driveway and garage with plant stuff".

Craig,

Thanks for the tour around your yard. I loved hearing the birds singing in the background as you showed us your blooming trees and bushes..The lilac is one of my favorite spring shrubs that I look forward to blooming the most in spring..My grandparents on both sides, had lilacs growing around their yard, as my mom and I..and now my son and daughter in law..I am glad you got a start from your grandpa's lilac. Sweet memories forever..

Your seedlings are doing wonderful. You have deff. been busy as a bee..I love all the diff. varieties of lettuce and greens you have growing..You are going to have a beautiful garden..

Well, while we had bare ground last week..we had a snow/ice storm a few days ago..Snowing now also..,So I really needed to see spring in other areas of the country..Thank You..You did a great job.

Aphid, I germinate tomatoes indoors on heat mats - then move them to the garage under lights - they go outside after they are transplanted into individual pots.

This Tomatoville thread shows exactly how I go it
