Default Hungarian Heart potato leaf mystery

I have flat of Hungarian heart seedlings. Out of the 36 plants, 7 have potato leaf foliage. This seems wrong because pl is recessive. A neighbor gave me 3 Hungarian heart plants last year and they were all regular leaf. i saved seed from 2 of them. The only thing that makes sense is that the plants that were given to me were grown from (unknown) crossed seed. I'm not sure about that either because all 3 plants produced identical fruit and I think he said that he usually grows only the Hungarian hearts. Human error is possible, but I am normally very careful. I have another batch of @12 growing, but they dont have their first true leaves yet.

any ideas? is it ever possible to see pl in a f1 (with one rl parent)?

thanks,

strax

I think one of the problems, for starters, is that there are two varieties, with different origins, that are named Hungarian Heart, or Heart Shaped, and while both are RL one person who cites a different source says PL.

I've spent some time looking in back SSE YEarbooks tonight and it's a bit complicated so I'll try to answer tomorrow when there's more light here near the computer and I'll be less tired.
