Running out of Space......
Well, whatever the heck is growing....
...the 252 seedlings on the shelves in our utility room are running out of space between their heads and the adjusted fluorescent lights ! They are fattening, too, but IMHO would like to stay indoors a bit longer. For the past week or so, have been unable to keep the utility room temps down to the 60-65 degree temps they've loved in past years Any-who........only began seeds March 17-18....40 days ago. May have to carry outside within the next week for placement under umbrellas. And pray that overnight frosting doesn't happen !!!!!! |

What the heck are you feeding those seedlings? I started mine March 11th and they are nowhere near that size. Mine have been at 60 degrees since they were planted and under lights for 16 hours a day.

Hey, Worth......you must be a good detective !
Indeed, Miracle Grow potting soil is what they get transplanted into, year after year. What happens in terms of growth seems to be related to just one thing, i.e., how cool can I keep the utility room where they live ! Was fine in beginning, but past couple of weeks the heat was on here, and the window fan bringing air in (even at night most of the time) it wasn't possible to get it down to 55-65 !!!!!!!!!!! Anyway.....will be getting to raising the lights up to the limit, and once most seedlings are threatening to touch em again.....OUT they go for hardening. Hoping for a good season......for everyone at Tomatoville as well. |

Well, the Miracle Grow potting soil that I use has 90 days extended fertilizer in it...it's always been a success for us.
Let them start up in Jiffy pellet "greenhouses", and transplant to MG potting soil after they've grown a few branches. Have brought all the lights to maximum height ......so OUT they will go in next few days. Fortunately the latest 10 day forecast indicates the likelihood that frost may NOT be a factor as the hardening off begins a bit early. Yea, man ! We should be IN THE GROUND by May 15th the latest !!!!! |

OK, the weather was nice today.
So OUT THE DOOR, and best of luck to my seedlings. Let the Hardening Begin ! Should be OK.....next 10 day forecast calls for one day low of 42 degrees, one at 44....balance at 45 + (some 50's). Highs will be high 50's and low 60's. Perfect IMHO. Feels good that the season has begun. |
