Default Dino Eggs

Just wondering what folks experience is/was with this variety. I am growing it for the first time (thanks Suze!) and it has become a very large plant. It struggled with fruit set early on but is setting like crazy now even when others are struggling.
Your thoughts on the variety?

It could be what's called puffiness which makes the fruits almost hollow. The above link suggests cool weather, but other links when I Googled it don't mentiion cool weather, just usually lack of adequate pollination.

You might want to do a Google search entering the words

tomato puffiness

...... and read some of the other links there to see if what you see is what's pictured and described.

In my tomato pathology monograph the picture of puffiness shows an almost completely empty fruit.

The pictures in my book are by Seminis and TAMU uses pretty much the same pictures, so you mioght want to look at TAMU as well, the link is at the top of the disease and pest forum.

Cool weather... in Corpus Christi?

That's a good one.

I'd go for the incomplete pollination.

Which Feldon, is why I posted the following in my post above:

(The above link suggests cool weather, but other links when I Googled it don't mentiion cool weather, just usually lack of adequate pollination.)

And also suggested reading some of the other links in a Google search and mentioned the words that worked best for me in doing that search.

And for sure I do know that Corpus Christi is not your typical cold season area.

Actually, my first thought was that the "hollowness" was the beginning of the process which "fossilizes" them. That would keep the "Dino Eggs" on pace with the "Dinos".

Gotta get'em buried in the fine sand now.

TEE HEE!!!!!

Incomplete pollination on 3 fruit now from two different plants?
Does it mean all the fruit are going to be this way? Bummer

OK, three Dino fruits from two plants of Dino.

I can't answer your question directly.

You can get fruit set with incomplete pollination, whether it's due to high sustained heat that denatures pollen and/or high humidity which clumps it leading to less effective pollen, fruits that develop from either of those conditions could lead to what you have.

Whether Dino is more susceptible to it I don't know. Since you got the seeds from Suze, why don't you ask her what her experience was with it, even though she probably grew it in a former season and can't necessarily speak to the specific conditions your plants are experiencing this year.

Hopefully Suze will see this and chime in. The plants did seem to struggle early on as far as fruit set goes. Once they started setting they have set real well and are still setting well while others are struggling with the heat as of late.
It has been real windy for weeks now but it is always kind of windy here in Corpus. One of the plants is in an area where it is less effected by wind so I dont think that is it either.

I will let some more fruit ripen and see if it continues and post pics. It would be a shame if all of the fruit are like that as there are more than a 100 between the two plants.

*****

I think that should give you a clue as to what might be happening b'c the fruits you're harvesting now would have been from those that were the earliest to set fruit which you said above was a "struggle).

So let's see what the later fruits to set look like when they ripen.

Dino Eggs is a heavy setter, but not particularly early. I don't remember any problems with hollowness.

If it is indeed incomplete pollination then later fruit should be fine. I sure hope so

Still pulling partially hollow fruit. As they blush the sides give and when I cut one open today, it had a black spot inside. I have something going on here with this variety, just have no idea what it is.
