Default First fruit set

For tomato growers there are always certain milestones (first seedling to emerge, first fruit set, first ripe tomato, etc.). I would be interested in hearing about other peoples' experiences with first fruit set this year.

I realize there are people on the West coast and in the SW who are eating their first tomatoes (I just saw a picture of a ripe Kosovo), but here in the midwest we can only dream about that day.

For me, Indian Stripe takes the honors for first fruit set this year.

1st - Indian Stripe (currently about the size of a quarter)
2nd - Danko (size of a penny)
3rd - Bear Creek (not quite the size of a dime)
4th - Sarah Black (very tiny tomatoes)

I should start to see some Barlow Japs before the end of the weekend. I also have dried blossoms on Cowlicks, Blue Ridge Mountain, Box Car Willie and Couilles de Taureau.

I found it interesting that I planted three black tomatoes, and all three were in the top four for earliest fruit set.

BigBrownDogHouse,

Your weather must be moving into Cincinnati about now. I am hearing rumblings of thunder and it is getting darker outside.

Does fruit set the size of a BB count? Sungold is first and Bloody Butcher, Siberian, Stupica and Sophie's Choice should follow in 2 or 3 days.

The size of a BB works for me. My Sarah Blacks are a little larger than that, but not by much.

If it's what we had, you'll have some good heavy rain with wind. Then crumby, gray, soggy conditions for the next few days. Pull out the boots if you want to roam the garden.

We waited so long to get stuff in around here and now that it is in, it's difficult to go out and work in the garden. Weeds are getting a head start on me this year.
They time is coming as soon as things dry out!

Earliest for me was Tumbling Tom Yellow, first tiny fruits about 3 weeks ago. This picture is 5 days old. I counted 22 fruits on it last night.

My other cherry tomatoes also have some fruit set (Maskotka and Lizzano), but not as many.

None of my larger tomatoes have fruit yet.

So far I've only got tiny little bb sized tomatoes on my Sun Gold, but I've got several other plants that now have some unopened blossoms and shouldn't be too far behind.

Mr. Bruno was the first to set for me. Second was sungold. I was surprised that Mr. Bruno set before Azoychka. She still hasn't opened her flowers.

Indian stripe has lots of flowers. Should be some babies any day now.

This is my first year growing Indian Stripe, and mine also has lots of blossoms and tomatoes. It looks like it is going to be a very productive tomato plant.

My first year for IS too. I have high hopes! My CP didn't germinate, so I can't compare. I do have a Spudakee Purple and a Cherokee Green, but no Cherokee Purple!
