Newspapers around tomatoes
Hello every one My name is Andrew and I just signed up today.
I let my my neighbor borrow some garden space in my yard for planting tomatoes and one cucumber plant. I am planning on placing newspaper around all of the plants to cut down on the weeding so I guess I am asking if it's all right to do this after the fact, now that all of the plants are now in the ground. |

I've used newspapers in the past - actually laid down the newspapers then covered with grass clippings - kept the weeds down, helped maintain moisture - worked great.

Four layers of newspapers and a few applications of grass clippings keeps the garden weed free all summer long. I actually make rolls of newspaper by gluing sheets together with a glue stick over the winter (It's pretty easy to do if you have a good sized table for a work surface).....it saves time and makes handling the newspapers a lot easier in the garden....just roll it out. ~Dig |
