tomatoes take FOREVER to ripen
Hope this question hasn't been posted too many times. I live in Alaska zone 3b. I get plenty of ripe little tomatoes all the time but hardly any big ripe ones. I start early, grow in a greenhouse and keep things watered every day. Any ideas?

I find, you have to be more than patient, for tomatoes to ripen.. I have had tomatoes set, on the bush, green and mature, for 28 days without a blush.

This is how I am feeling right now! I guess patience is a virtue.

Gregori's Altai is perhaps the earliest big one (maybe County Agent, too).
At cool temperatures, though, the flavor may not impress. Vorlon is not as early as those two, but the flavor held up pretty well in last summer's cooler, rainier than average weather. None ripe yet this year (if anything, cooler yet from plant out to the 4th of July than last year). Early Rouge is not that big, baseball sized fruit, but it is vying with Sasha's Altai for most fruit set in cool weather this summer.

I have too been waiting forever for the first one to show signs of blushing and finally today I found one Benewah and one Kootenai with some red hue. Gregori's Altai has nice big tomatoes, but all are still green. So far none of the cherry type tomatoes in my greenhouse have started to change colors.

Same here and I am in Anchorage. I don't even have small ones ripe yet and the only ones that I have heard ripening so far are in the valley. I am actually not that far ahead of last year which was dismal. I use a greenhouse also.

I had several ripe cherry tomatoes and my kid ate them. One of my big ones had BER and it ripened first. But the others are still green! It's been 60 tops the past few days.
