Default Lemon Boy looks better than Lemon Boy

I have one Lemon Boy in my greenhouse and a couple of Lemon Boy plants in my weave this year. I really like the flavour & they always produce a ton of tomatoes in my area. I bought them in a cell pack at a nursery. The plant in the greenhouse is producing the usual Lemon Boys, round, yellow, 6-7ounces... but the plants in the weave are both producing this:

I picked it when it was the usual yellow, then realized it was still hard. So I waited a few days, then a few more and the fruit is getting more and more orange. It is 2x as big as my Lemon Boys usually get, weighing just shy of a pound. It is also a beautiful beefsteak shape, as are the other couple of dozen on the outdoor plants! Going to taste the 1st one tonight & hope it is as good as it looks. I also have a greenhouse one ready for comparison. The 4th plant in the cell pack was tucked in my flower garden (trying to hide # of tomato plants from my DH) and died before setting fruit. I'll add the tasting tomorrow!

I have grown lemon boy many times and have never seen one this big.
It doesn't look like a fuzed blossom and I would chance to say it wasn't lemon boy.

You're absolutely right ... Lemon Boy sure does look better than Lemon Boy! I haven't grown it for a few years, but we like it too. Let us know how it tastes.

Going to taste it tonight... got a bit busy last night - had my baseball team over and found myself cutting up the Evergreen and Paul Robeson for everyone to try. Made a baseball team full of converts from the "grocery red"!!!! But I held back the Lemon boy. I wanted to take my time and compare it to the ones in the greenhouse. Plus I figured the taste of the Keiths may dull the tomato palate
Anway here is a pic of the Paul Robeson, Evergreens and the Lemon Boy so that you can see how orange it is!

Finally tasted the Lemon Boy on the weekend... Had a Lemon Boy looking Lemon Boy to compare it to as well... The big guy was juicy, nice texture, more acidic, tang, citrusy than sweet. I think it would be fantastic in a salad with any kind of fruity dressing. Also an absolutely gorgeous colour! The Lemon Boy looking Lemon Boy had a similar taste, but more acidic tasting. It was not as meaty & completley different texture.

So it looks like 2 of 4 of my plants bought from the nursery were some kind of accidental cross - unless they were mislabelled by the grower. The only kinds of toms that the nursery sells are Early Girl, Better Boy, Beefsteak, Roma, Lemon Boy and Cherokee Purple. So... Saved some seeds. I figure that the taste is pretty similar to Lemon boy and they both produced ripe fruit on the same day... go with the new one and see what it comes out as next year!
