The best tomato salad
Today I had what I thought was the best tomato salad of the 2011 season.
The key ingredients were: - Hazel Mae tomato - Old Flames tomato - Gold Medal tomato - Glick's Pride tomato - lots of fresh garlic - fresh cilantro - olive oil I was surprised to find these bi-colored tomatoes so good and so sweet. Yummy. I know many folks do not like bicolors, as they may not perform consistently or be too bland / too mealy for them, but even in our crappy season in PNW these came out absolutely lovely. Another amazing thing was that these were the survivors of the late blight devastation that I had back in July. All I can say I am very glad I could sample these today. Tania

I think bi color tomatoes are so pretty and add a lot of pizzazz to a plate. We did notice that some of the orange/yellow tomatoes I bought at a farm stand were good on a BLT, but not nearly as good as the reds in our tomato basil salad. I guess each tomato has it's shining moment !
Glad you had survivors you could still enjoy though! |
