Experiment in containers with Tomatoes
I am sorry I do not have pics of what I put my tomatoes in two years ago. They flourished and they provided me with tomatoes til Nov! I had found this piece to a compost bin out in the water. I put really great composted naturally fertilized soil in it, even seaweed and nettles rotted and put in there. Then I started these lovely tomato plants my neighbor had started me in his green house. This is funny, as I stopped by his home one day...he asked me when I was taking my tomatoes home? I had not asked him for tomatoes but he was insistent, when I agreed to take them, he said you can't take them, they are not ready! LOL. So then I asked him when they would be ready, he told me he would let me know. When he told me to come get them with that great sense of humor, I planted them on an embankment in that compost piece with the drop below being 240 feet, it is an open area on the other side of my fence, no protection from winds to speak of. Those tomatoes did beautifully! Then last year I couldn't plant any due to a trip we were taking. So I planted Garlic in that compost bin piece instead in January and they turned out to be my biggest garlic. This year, I will be planting tomatoes in black plastic containers out over my fence in the same area... Oh I can hardly wait! I have been growing all kinds of things in buckets and containers, like Kale, mints, herbs and teas..all do so very well.
