Default I Need a Red Cherry Tomato

I'm almost done buying my tomato seeds for my garden next year but I need a red cherry tomato. I ordered Black Cherry, I'm going to order Sungold, but I still need a red cherry.

I was thinking of getting Sweet Million since I had that one before but I'm looking for suggestions.

Any ideas?

Rose Quartz is definitely pink for me (as it should be), just sayin'.

Best tasting red cherry IMO - Sweet Million F1

Yeah I was gonna post Rose Quartz F1, which has a guaranteed slot in my garden, but it's pink. There are so many bland red cherries like Husky Cherry Red. Heard good things about Sweet Million.

I grew Sweet Million last year (two plants) thinking I would possibly sell some at the flea market. The taste was only so-so, trashimg plans to sell them. I won't even give them away when the taste isn't there.

I also grew Matt's Wild Cherry, Sara's Galapagos, and Tommy Toe Red - all of which tasted fantastic. These three gave me three reds that were different sizes. By far, they outperformed Sweet Million hands down both in taste and in production.

Maybe think about these:

Chadwick's Cherry, aka Camp Joy

Gardener's Delight, aka Sugar Lump

Casino Chips, the new one from Joe that was a somatic mutation from the original much larger variety Casino. I'll be offering it in my seed offer here as probably others will as well/

Moravsky Div, a largish red cherry

I like all of the above very much, All are red, all are OP and I haven't grown an F1 cherry in many years, except for Sungold F1 and Mountain Magic F1, and the latter is also a darn good red largish cherry that performs wonderfully in adverse conditions and the taste is pretty darn good as well.

Ted, I don't consider Sara's Galapagos to be a cherry. it's much too small, currant sized, and is an interspecies stable cross between a currant and ????. But I think it has a huge burst of flavor and so like it very much. Matt's Wild I didn't like the taste of, but you know, different tastes for different folks, and same for Tommy Toe, at least for me.

Hi there,
I grew Supersweet Million and it was delicious! Perfect balance of flavor, acid and sweet. I liked it better than Sun Gold and Chocolate Cherry!

I'm growing both Chadwick's Cherry and Gardener's Delight right now.. Both are excellent options, and produce quite well. Another option, if you don't mind them being a tiny bit pointy on the end, is Reisentraube. VERY productive.

I'm considering all sorts of cherry tomato varieties. It's mind boggling!

Tommy Toe is my favorite red cherry. I've grown it for several years. It has good flavor at every stage of ripeness.

I stole some overly ripe tommy toes off a friend's plant so if you'd like to grow it, hit me up via PM and I will send you some seeds. This offer is only for Too Tall Toms. Next year I will have enough seeds to offer them to everybody.

The plant it came off of was by far the most productive tomato in my friend's garden even though it came up from seed sometime in June. They've got adorable little belly buttons on the blossom end.

I made a project out of finding a good red cherry last year. There were 2 winners that are being invited back permanently. Koralik was a prolific small cherry with the punch of flavor I have only found in currant tomatoes previously. Also, I found Val's Red Nibbler to be excellent. That plant was a factory of tasty red grape tomatoes thoughout the entire season for me.

If pink is ok, consider sweet treats f1, a second choice would be sugary f1. IMO better flavor than rose or sweet quartz, sugar snacks, jelly bean, sweet million, or other sweet red cherries.

I think the original poster did ask for red cherries, though.

And not all red cherries are sweet/ Some like sweet some want more depth of flavor. it's just a matter of trying this and that to see what an individual likes.

The ones I listed would not be considered overly sweet and I would gladly add Risenetraube that Sir Tanon mentioned as well even though each small fruit does have a nipple at the blossom end.

Then there's the consideration of what a cherry variety really is. I consider cherries to be round, so don't include them with grape tomatoes, for instance, which are shall we say cherry sized but not cherry shaped.

Thats why I nevr chimed in and mentioned Risenetraube, as it is a grape.
I prefer grape tomatoes over cherry tomatoes with the exception of Sungold.

If you are looking for a small tomato and not concerned about the shape, grape tomatoes are a good choice.
But that opens up a whole new area of tomatoes.
