Pickled Cherry Tomatoes - Tania?
Working here in Moscow for a week, and bought a jar of pickled cherry tomotoes and gerkins at the store. Lovely mild pickle with a bit of a spicy tinge. Does anyone pickle cherries? Any recipes?

I did an experimental batch of pickled cherries last year, put whole cloves of garlic in with 'em, but I'd have to dig up the recipe I used.

I love pickled/marinated tomatoes. Here is one of the basic recipes, you can experiment with by adding different spices - Ingredients (per 3 litre jar): - any firm fresh tomatoes (paste or hearts or small saladettes will do best; personally I do not like cherries in there) - 1 Tbsp of white vinegar (75%) - 2 Tbsp of salt - 3 tbsp of sugar - 2 medium onions - 4-6 large garlic cloves Preparation: - Cut onions into half-rings - slice each garlic cloves into ~4 slices - Boil water with sugar, salt and vinegar - Put half of garlic and onions at the bottom of sterilized glass jar, then put tomatoes (whole) continuing to lay the remaining onion and garlic into the gaps - Pour the hot marinade and sterilize for ~20 minutes, and close the lid It should keep for a few years. (But it never does, as we eat it so fast )

Vinegar... 75%... surely that's a typo. All I've seen is 5% food grade here in the states. You can get 20% horticultural to use as a weed killer. I see you are in Canada so maybe you meant 7.5%

I know Andrey in Minsk, Belarus pickles lots of what he grows and he's put up pictures here to show the rows and rows of those jars that look almost jewel like with the vibrant colors.
Perhaps he'll see this thread and also add a recipe or two that he and his family use for pickling.
