Default Chill-Chill in tomato heaven

I'm living in a great city in Germany. I only have a balcony, but my chair and my tomatoes are my best friends.

Last year I had such big tomatoes, every in containers. One was in a 35 litre pot, the others in 12 litres. My biggest tomy was the Carnica, my favorite baby..., the others were Sweetie, Black Cherry, Vierländer Dattel (an old tomato come from an area near Hamburg), Nonna Antonina, Cherry Goldita, Tonnelet (an old Belgian tomato).

But I search tomatoes which grow below the ceiling. I saw some pics here, one was the Early Girl... do you have another tip for me?

I'm happy that you liked my "garden". I do not have much space, but I' ll do my very best.

Please give me some tips, which tomatoes grow very high, i want some green on my ceiling, the plant can search it's way around and around me, like in Sleepy Beauty's Castle.

This year I grow following list:

Carnica
Costoluto Genovese
Sweetie
Nonna Antonina
Mariana's Peace
Ananas Noire
Brandywine Sudduth's Strain
Noire de Russe
Vierländer Dattel
Black from Thula
Purple Calabash
Gartenperle (hanging in a basket)

I know that the Costoluto is a big one, and the Sudduth's Strain, but I want some more mental nudges.... I want tomatoes heigh from 3 but better 4 meters....

thx.

Dorothée,

Welcome. You have a lovely garden.

Several of the tiny tomatoes grow very tall and wide: Tess's Landrace Currant, Matt's Wild Cherry, Sara's Galapagos, Millefleur. In the hybrids, SunGold and SunSugar are also very tall.

beautiful tomato plants.

Most indeterminates will grow very tall but the cherries always grow taller faster.

Did your plants get more Evening sun or more Morning sun?
Looks like they produced very well under that roof.

Hi and welcome. I'd also vote for Sungold - they are huge plants, and delicious too.

Welcome to T-ville. One of my tallest plants ever has been Black Cherry (and it tastes great too!)

I don't have much experience with the cherries. I have only grown the Sweet Million and the Tommy Toe. The tommy toe had no flavor in my opinion but it was a huge plant over 10 ft in a 5 gallon pot.

glad to hear black cherry grows tall. I ordered it the other day. along with chocolate cherry.

My Big Beef tomato plants have gotten 12 ft tall in the 5 gallon pot.

Thanks for the compliments. We have a little park outside, I love to sit there and look around.

@Carolyn, I get sun only in the afternoon for about 4 hours, but in one corner of the balcony is no sun out. But they grow, even if the harvest was not excessive.
I put one Black Cherry in the Corner. She was about 3 Meters high.

Fine, I write down all the suggestions I'm gonna go and see where I get them forth.
