So - to all I sent the Indian Stripe X (Purple Smudge?) mystery....
How did the seeds germinate? Do you see any variation in the plants? I just remembered that quite a few of you wanted to try this out and see what you get.
So this is a thread for you to share your results. (I won't pin it - just look for it now and then and kick it up if it gets lost)

I planted mine yesterday. I love it when all the project seeds start germinating! Already 25 of the 50 cells in my first Dwarf flat have germinated in three days!

I kept just one plant out of 3 and it's now the tallest of all. So you think it is crossed with "purple smudge"? How early is this tomato approx?

seeded on 22 Mar 12
11 seeds planted first germination on 29 Mar 12 germination 7/11, two "helmet heads" culled one seedling showed signs of purple on the stem as soon as it germinated; it struggled to escape it's seed and required assistance; the color is not as pronounced now as upon first germination but it can be distinguished from the other seedlings when examined. |

I've got just a bit of preliminary results. I planted 20 seeds, and obtained 16 seedlings. There is clear variation in stem color - it is hard to judge leaf shape at such an early stage, but will get easier as they get larger.
But as for stem color - 5 have stems that are quite purple, 6 have stems that are kind of a purplish/gold blend (clearly different), and 3 seem much more pale - nearly all pale green with just some purple shading - 2 are too young to evaluate. So at least three distinct types just based on stem color. If it is indeed an Indian Stripe X Purple Smudge cross, there could be quite a lot of variation. I've not yet determined how many I will grow to fruiting - probably at least 3, in small pots pruned to just a few trusses.

My plant is still the tallest of all. Very healthy looking. I would be close to transplanting it into the final pot but have to make a trip to CA so all transplanting will be put off until the end of May.

I definately have a purple stem..no doubt, the plant stands out from all my others very noticeably.
