Moravsky Div Comes in First
Moravsky Div beat Kimberley by two days in my yearly first tomato contest. Both were planted Feb 25 and the first Moravsky Div was picked April 12. The first Kimberley was picked today, April 14. 48 days is pretty good for me. And I have others ripening on that plant.
Kimberley usually is the winner but last year Sungold was first. On a side note Blush would have been close but it succumbed to bacteria wilt (I think). Taxi is coming on strong as is Snow White. Can't wait for the Big Fellas like Brandy Boy, Earl's Faux, Orange Minsk, Bush Big Boy, and of course the Dwarves. In addition to Blush, I have lost Grub's Mystery Green, Dwarf Wild Fred and Anais Noire to one disease or another. But I still have 45 plants blooming and setting fruit. Hope the temps stay in the good range under 90 for another month or so. MikeInCypress.

This was one of those years where, realistically, you and I could've had plants in the ground on Valentine's Day and not worried about a thing. But hindsight's 20/20. I went in-ground on March 4th and, aside from Sungold, don't have any early varieties. I do have lots of mustard greens, however...

Mojo,
I did set some plants out Feb 17 but they were the bigger Orange Minsk, Brandy Boy, Earl's Faux, Sophie's Choice, Monomakh's Hat and Grub's Mystery Green. In 14 years at this location this is the second earliest I have set out plants. In 2000 I got some in the ground on Feb 14.

Mike, this is nice to hear. I have a few Moravsky Divs that are big enough to go out as soon as the weather here is right. How was the taste?

April 12th! Wow, Mike, that's awesome! I wish I'd planted earlier and would've done it in my old wow's if I had, but that is usually the case for me. Life just doesn't seem to allow for it most years. I have no earlies, so it looks like a couple more weeks for me. sigh.

I ate the first sliced on a grilled burger. MM Good. Actually it tasted like an early tomatro. Better than store bought but not as good as a mid May Earl's Faux.

If I recall correctly, when I grew Miravsky Div and Kimberly in the same season, a couple of years ago, Miravsky Div ripened about 2 days earlier for me as well(to be fair, I should mention I grew 2 MD plants, and one Kimberly). Miravsky Div fruits were significantly larger than Kimberly. The both tasted very good, with Kimberly being sweeter, and Miravsky Div being more balanced in flavor.
