Hollow Seed Chamber -
Hope all is well everyone !
Been battling some blight in my garden - Buts its to be expected (tis the season, lol) - Anyway, after a alot of really nice harvests, I've noticed when I cut some of the tomatoes open, sometimes there is a hollow seed chamber, that resembles a peppers insides ~ Why does this happen ; & is there some kind of evironmental change I could do to stop it ? ~ Tom

Tom,
Do those fruits have a blocky shape to them? I ask b'c there's a condition called puffiness where the fruit shape is blocky and the insides are pretty much hollow with poor development of locules, gel capsules and seeds. Conditions that can induce it include high and low temp extremes, use of fruit hormones, conditions of drought or excessive moisture. And excessive soil fertility, especially N, can also encourage this condition of puffiness. While I haven't done it, if you go to Google and select IMAGES and then enter tomato puffiness you may see some pictures, or you can Google it outright.

Yes one side was alittle blocky - I'll google it and see whats what ~ It was VERY DRY during heat wave - Then it dumped rain on us ~ Could def. be environmental ... My garden has been bursting ... it does every year because I dump the entire compost bin into it in the fall ~ super rich soil ~ Tom
