Default grubs mystery green

i started my plants from seed and got a bunch of PL plants and one RL plant. the RL plant was growing so fast and looked so healthy i decided to keep it. to date it is a gorgeous looking plant with tons of fruit and the largest of my container plants.

i just got back from a few days away and had my first ripe tomateo. to my surprise it was RED. i've seen an old thread here about GMG having the occasional RL plants and sometimes red tomatoes on PL and RL plants.

anyway if i save seed should i expect green while ripe plants and red while ripe plants or only red? also will i get RL and PL plants or only RL

also has anyone grown out the plants with large red tomatoes and if so how did you like them? my tomato was 11.6 ounces, not the small cherry size people have gotten

Any segregations from an unstable PL tomato should also be PL, shouldn't they?

So it could be a new F1 hybrid - GMG PL crossed with a large red RL tomato. If so, you will get both RL and PL in your subsequent growout.

I only got some small RL reds in my 2006 growouts of GMG, and taste was unremarkable.

I am growing GMG this year again, and got one RL seedling. I think this might be a cross - no fruit yet, we'll see what it will be!

thats what i remember reading. i didnt try the red one i picked yet. i want to give it another day or two to ripen up a little more

i will not make up my mind on saving seed until mid/late season. i know the tomato can taste different as the season goes on so i dont want to rule it good/bad until i give it a season to show me what its got

here is the first ripe one. trying tonight on a mahi sandwich. i accidentally knocked one off while working around the container so i took a picture to show how the rest of the tomatoes look. the 1st is almost 12 ounces while the rest look to be 8-10 ounces

will post taste results later....cant wait

by the way is this the result of a fused blossom or just mutation?

It is just catfacing

It looks pink - or is it just how it appears in the photograph?

Perhaps it is stray seed or seed mixup? I am not 100% sure (need to look it up), but I thought clear skin is a recessive trait, and therefore in F1 it should have been yellow skinned, i.e. red fruit.

Default GMG

I have 3 planted, only one at my place, the others at the kids houses. My first one is starting to turn, and it is pink, starting at the top!! PL, large plant not compact. Think I got the seeds last yr in the big swap. Nice looking plant and big on production.

i would say we have the same seeds however mine is a RL plant. this plant is also not compact and out producing all others at this point, not only with the most ripe fruit but also the most small green tomatoes and flowers.

i can tell you i am extremely happy with this tomato and i think i'm glad i got a pink tomato to enjoy the rest of the summer

Mine are a real pale green all except the one starting to turn. No dark green top. I'll try to remember to snap a pic.

Here is my grubs, a beautiful plant with pretty good production. About ready to eat. I found it strange that the blush started at the top, and worked down, tho there is still some green near the top.
