Default Now it is officially summer...

This week has seen our first serious pickings of tomatoes. Unfortunately the big rains came this week just as many were ripening. Three inches so far this week and more rain is threatening this evening. Despite having kept the plants well watered I've had more splitting than I like. Worst has been Cherokee Purple which has had me eating them like crazy... how sad.

Anyway below from left to right, top to bottom....

Anna Russian,Boxcar Willie, Big Beef, Cherokee Purple, Amish Paste, Coustralee, Pink Floyd, Mandarin Orange
Clint Eastwood's Rowdy Red, Early Girl,
the days haul all together.

Time to start canning a few.

Very nice harvest! It definitely looks like it is time to do some canning. I've never heard of a tomato called Pink Floyd. I'll have to do a search and find out more about it.

All are so very beautiful.
Since my father bought me Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon album for my eighth birthday it has been one of my favorite groups.

Based on this alone I would love to grow this tomato.
Would you be so kind as to tell me where you obtained the seeds?

Thanks!!

Julia

Pink Floyd is reportedly as a growout from Brandy Boy hybrid (Burpee). I haven't tasted it yet so who knows if I will like it. I got it purely because I could not resist the name either. The seed came via wintersown.org which my anti-virus package is currently blocking as a malicious URL. I intend to save some seeds though I haven't bagged the blossoms. I would be happy to share some.

For what it is worth, I will share my thoughts on the flavor once I have tried a few. I find that the first few tomatoes off any plant are not usually the best it has to show.

Wow, so many tomatoes! Mine are still green, ugh! Where is summer? All we have is intense heat and no rain. Please send some up to NJ for us!

I also was warned not to open wintersown.org. Wonder how long this has been going on? Hope she can get it fixed.

I believe she has gotten into some databases as being a malicious URL. When software uses such databases it will block her even if her site is in fact clean. That can be very hard to overcome and get cleaned up.

I love the beds! They have gotten me way ahead of the weeds and so far (fingers crossed) no disease problems. Tomatoes and cukes both are doing well so far. Finally I can direct seed things like carrots and lettuce.

Now I need to select an effective easy to maintain mulch for the pathways.
