Lesser Known Variety Growouts
Kamatis na Ligaw:
Very large plants with large, regular leaves. Oblate fruit about 2" across. Nice balanced taste, slightly spicy but not acidic. Nice meat to gel ratio. No cracking despite heavy rains. Very enjoyable fresh and/or on bruschetta.

I think this is the same variety, from a Google general search, and you'll find lots of links for it and one person here at Tville who is from the Phillipines has showed pictures of it and her link is also in the Google Search. Her user name here at Tville is pinkabet.

Gapan Native:
Large cherry type. Modest sized, healthy plant, small leaves. Seedy and very acidic with thick skin. I ate a fresh beet once and my throat almost closed up. This is nowhere near as bad as that in terms of astringency but it isn't too far off. Another variety starts off like this and then mellows as the season progresses but given the low meat to gel ratio and the degree of acidity, I can't really recommend this tomato other than for a curiosity or breeding purposes although my wife likes it for the exactly the same reasons I don't especially enjoy it. It is a wet season variety so I am guessing it has somewhat of a tolerance for wet feet although that attribute was not tested in this hot dry summer.

Squarehead Pink:
A commercial variety from Korea and one of my favorites. I grew one plant last year and about 12 this year and I have not seen any variations so some stability is apparent if not confirmed. A modestly sized plant with good productivity and medium sized dark pink fruit that are on the sweet side of balanced. Firm but not hard flesh with a nice meaty interior. Much better than grocery store tomatoes in the US.

Susong Kalabaw:
Small plants with heavy fruitset of elongated cherries. Seedy and on the acidic side of balanced. Still would make a nice salad tomato.
