I hurt my foot a couple weeks ago. Got a new (used) bicycle and had an accident. I finished my errands (11 miles) and by the time I got home, I could hardly walk on it. I put some Arnica gel on it, for the next few days soaked in epsom salts in hot water, and I stayed off my feet as much as possible for a few days. It turned out to be bruised, not broken. A week later, I saw bruises start to develop near my toes, where I hadn't put any arnica. |

Craig,
So much for the Russian space program now!!! What are you going to tell them when you don't show up for training at Oblesk-18??? Hmmm? It appears your experiments concerning growing tomatoes on the International Space Station are now on hold!! Feel better!!! Julia

Craig if you can, get a boot. It really helps protect it an keep it from moving around. Sad to say I know from first hand experience, more than once.

Ice is great! My wife had a knee replaced a few months ago. The first thing they did after surgery was put ice on it. She brought a circulating ice machine home from the hospital and used it for a month. It's like an ice bucket with a pump in it. It circulates water through the ice and then into a pad around her knee. Every five or six hours, you dump the melted ice out of the bucket and refill it with crushed ice and water. I don't know if anything like that is available at pharmacies, but it worked great to stop the pain and keep the swelling down.

The more you rest it, even staying off the crutches as much as possible, the quicker it is likely to heal. Worth, So, how close did that pipe wrench come to missing your head? And, look on the bright side...16' - 24"(pipe wrench) = only a 14 foot drop. The p you dropped from "droped" fell from my monitor, and missed my foot. Tormato |

Yes, I can also recommend getting a boot. I had foot surgery during gardening season a couple of years ago. I had a plastic bag that I kept in the car that I tied around my foot while I was in the garden. Kept the boot clean and the boot kept my foot protected.

if not a boot, at least get an air cast, they're relatively inexpensive and will help stabilize your ankle. I've broken three bones in my lifetime, all in my foot/ankle. The last time was a few years back and I managed with the air cast pretty well. It wasn't a serious break so I was only on crutches for about a week, then moved to a cane until it was fully healed.

The break is in the middle on the outside of my foot. The dr equated it to pulling up a plant when I rolled the foot a piece of bone came with it. I do have an ankle brace that goes just past the break. Well see how it feels after another week or so before I decide on a boot or not.

Craig, I feel your pain, and it is a bummer to be layed up this time of year. Broke my right leg twice, both times just above the ankle. First when I was 13, ice skating down a frozen driveway in February, the skate blade buried itself in the snowbank and I kept on going. Foot was on backwards til it was set ( still points outwards). The last time was at 50, second warm up throw at the bowling alley, slide foot stuck, other stepped forward onto the top edge of the gutter, still can't figure out how it broke, smaller bone just above the ankle, foot on sideways til surgery. Metal plate and 6 screws (still have them). I hate when that happens!!!!
