What new varieties did you grow this year...
...that you will definitely grow again next year???
This was my first year trying heirlooms and of the 20 or so that I tried here's the ones that will be planted again next year... Cherokee Purple Matina Pineapple Omars Lebanese Eva Purple Ball and Sunset Red Horizon are "maybes" depending on how much room I have. |

Of the new one's I grew this year, Desters likely has the best chance at being grown again next season. A top notch Beefsteak IMO.

Blush and Perth Pride are my new growouts that make the list for next season. If Amazon Chocolate rates above a 6 on flavor, it will certainly make another appearance. My single trial plant is setting more fruit than any OP I've ever grown. All fruits still in the greenie stage, but sheer numbers have been very impressive.

African Queen, Faworyt, Bulgarian Old Sort, Kelly Green, Sweet Sue, Summer Sunrise, and, of course, Maiden's Gold.

Of the ones new to me this year, Barlow Jap, Copper River, Daniels, Indian Stripe x possibly Daniels and PPP x PP x C have the best chance of being grown again but they're all maybes.

Indian Stripe PL - very productive and tasty. Brad's Black Heart - the best heart I have had to date. Lots that I'll grow again, but I had most of them last year also.

Margaret Curtain (black tomato, superior flavor)
Nile River Egyptian (I only got one fruit, but its flavor was so good that I will grow it again just to cross it with something earlier and more productive with verticillium tolerance) A Bear Claw x Unknown cross (excellent flavor, first in the garden to set fruit in 2012) Tasmanian Chocolate We started out 2012 with 10 weeks <= 60F, so there were several new-to-me varieties that had good flavor, but I have no idea what their average production is like yet.

For me it will be:
Blush Korol Sibiri Nature's Riddle Rayce Tisk Hroznove Sister Miriam - I got only ONE single fruit (was planted too late and had a bad place in the garden). This fruit had NO seeds, but was absolutely delicious!! I do hope to germinate the seeds that are left from a trade! clara |

New ones for me that I "must" grow again...
Blush (delighted with them) Big Cheef (really cranked them out) KBX (gorgeous, delicious) Rebel Yell (great tomato) Kosovo (flavor wow, production ho hum) Tater Kin (flavor wow) Tommy Toe ...and then there's Pervaya Lyubov, who's flavor was good but not as good as the others but... It kept on producing like nobody's business. Silly thing was out there in hundred plus producing small tomato bites. Didn't even get the best of care. |

Kibic for sure. Those tiny little plants just kept going and going. Also Yellow Trifele, KBX, Black Cherry, White Rabbit and one of the experimental dwarves.
Honestly, most of my tomatoes didn't do well this year, but I've heard the same from almost everyone I've spoken to in my area, so it may have just been a bad year. Too much rain. |

A bunch of the Dwarfs - Beryl Beauty, Dwarf Mr Snow, Summertime Green, Yukon Quest, Iditarod Red - great production and in general the tastes I look for in a tomato.
Casino Chips - most productive red cherry - good in salads. Blush - maybe will take the place of Juliet. I'll be growing a few more of the hearts. Good both sliced and cooked. Hope to find some Fish Lake Oxheart. Want to keep it to 48 plants this year but that means at least 55. MikeInCypress

Tell me more about "blush" please. I've been looking for a long time for a legitimate tomato producing machine to replace my almost tasteless Juliet. Our daughter loves the Juliet because she can use them on salads and take bags of them home to share with neighbors who also seem to like them. I don't eat them because I prefer tomatoes with some bite in the taste. I get tired of needing to harvest them with a shovel at the end of the season. Ted |
