Default Neves Azorean Red ~

Wow, what a block-buster
tomato, in regards to flavor and production!
The plant thrives in high heat,
and produces big ol tomatoes ~
I must have had 15 already, and
the flavor was consitantly great ...
I can also say, where others failed
with disease tolerance, this variety looks
as good as the first month of growing ~

"Hats off" to Tony in tomato heaven
for introducing this variety to
tomato growers world wide ~

Here are a couple that showed up
for a photo shoot :

Tom,

Dunkel sent me some NAR seed.
Did he get it from you or visa versa?
Whatever ... it's a great tomato.

Mine remains very healthy,
but has only yielded 3 ripe,
one still green
and didn't set much during the heat.

What's come off the vine is wonderful though ...
big, thick, heavy, and nearly seedless
with ALL the little locules radiated out near the outer wall,
and the core is solid red, mellow and meaty.

The skin on mine is not quite as beautiful as yours ...
do you wax your tomatoes for photo sessions
or what ...

Since it sounds like it does well in hot weather, I might have to add NAR to my list next year. I see where Marianna's Seeds carries it. I might have to order it.

Tom, I see you mentioned KCMO_Don. Has anyone heard from him lately. Seems like a while since he's posted. The Earl's Faux he sent me in the spring, has done very well.

Mine shut down when the daytime temps
got over 92*F.

But now the plant is starting to perk up
and shoot out some healthy new growth with flowers.

The scant four tomatoes I got from
earlier season flower set were wonderful.

Here's one at the blossom end ...
all waxed up and ready for a photo shoot.

And here's a big, thick, juicy, meaty slice
all deseeded and ready to slide between
two pieces of mayo-lubed whole grain.

Heck yeah ... I gotta give that NAR
another try next year ...
Maybe it'll produce more.

I can't believe how nearly seedless it is,
and how that central core really isn't a core at all ...
just luscious red maydurmeat

I have a plate of seeds at home
from that one and one other NAR.
Together I bet there ain't a hunnert seeds.
I'll post a pic maybe.

Tom,

If you get a chance, post a pic of a sliced NAR.
I'm wonderin' if they all have that typical interior.
All four of mine did so far ... identical.

I still have some seeds from Dunkel
so I'm gonna try some more of his next year
plus some from these saved seeds.

Next year I'm gonna plant'm in a better tillage condition
and hope they produce more.
I grew this single plant in a special
Sack-O-Scheist (tm) system
(one of those big 40 kilo burlap
Colombian coffee bean bags
filled with composted horse hockey).

Tom, here's a link to a very long discussion of
Neves "Azurean" Red at another forum:
http://www.aujardin.org/ptopic17330.html

PV

PS: Actually, after I ran it through the translator
http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools
these French (mostly) growers apparently
know very little about about NAR too:

"*neves azurean red: I never intended some to speak.
Did somebody connait?" [Palim]

"Hello palim, I have badly write the names,
the sachets are not very readable,
the variety is: NEVE' S AZORIAN RED is what you know,
I have two seedlings which pushed well.
ciao ciao jardinautes" [bactrachian]

Well, it makes an interesting read ...
if you have a lot of time on your hands.

Why would the French know about it when I got the seeds the way I did here in the US and named it with input from 22 folks at GW who all got seeds of it from me?

PV, I wish I had perfect memory, but I don't, so I can't tell you if what you show represents the seed locule distribution. It isn't one of the 15 varieties I'm growing this year.
