Default New theme named tomato plants

Please make comments on how each on tastes...

Please no political based talk.

Here is a list of suggested names some of you Tomatovillians have suggested plus some I thought 'sounded' like a patriotic themed name.

1 4th of July

2 Abe Lincoln
3 Alice Roosevelt
4 Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad

5 Blue Ribbon
6 Brave General

7 Camp Joy
8 Captain Lucky

9 Eagle's Beak

10 Fireworks
11 Fireworks II
12 Firesteel aka The Marine C

13 George Washington

14 Jeff Davis

15 Independance Day

16 Lambert's General Grant
17 Liberty Bell
18 Liberty Tree
19 Lincoln Adams
20 Lincoln Gold

21 Marianna's Peace
22 Maritime
23 McKinley

24 Peacevine Cherry
25 President Garfield

26 Red Rocket

27 Taps
28 Turkey Chomp

29 Victory

I've left off some of the names suggested, as they didn't make an instint name recognition that I associate with an American patriotic theme.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Now to make some choices based on your expierence of growing and tasting them. Not just what the seed sellers say about them.

4Th of July is the only one I've grown very bland tasting. But they are early and productive.

Fireworks II is average tasting (not tart, not sweet, not
cardboard bland), but quite early, usually just behind
Bloody Butcher, Kimberley, Stupice, etc to first fruit,
and 4 times the size. I use it for everything (sandwiches,
salad, sauce, soup, etc), because it is usually the earliest
one big enough for sandwiches, and even after tomatoes
with more standout flavors are ripening, I still have lots of
them.

I agree with Marc about 4th of July. Others that I've tasted are Camp Joy, Brave General, Captain Lucky and Marianna's Peace and think they should definitely be tried by all who have the opportunity.

Camp Joy is a good tasting cherry, more sweet than
tart, nice balanced flavor.

Thanks for your taste opinions, please keep them coming. And for the other important bits of information. It's so great to hear from someone who has actually grown the plants. I know conditions make a difference too, but in general, I want some good tasting tomatoes and will not grow any that are spitters.

1 4th of July very bland early & productive 4X size of Stupice all purpose
2 Abe Lincoln
3 Alice Roosevelt
4 Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad A must because of Ohio history Best taste ever by locals

5 Blue Ribbon
6 Brave General Great taste

7 Camp Joy Great taste more sweet than tart(ok- production was sparse)
8 Captain Lucky Great taste

9 Eagle's Beak

10 Fireworks
11 Fireworks II average tasting not tart not sweet quite early
12 Firesteel aka The Marine C

13 George Washington

14 Jeff Davis very tart & tasty great in hot summers
15 Independance Day

16 Lambert's General Grant
17 Liberty Bell
18 Liberty Tree
19 Lincoln Adams
20 Lincoln Gold

21 Marianna's Peace Great taste (great taste! large pink & fairly productive)
22 Maritime
23 McKinley

24 Peacevine Cherry
25 President Garfield

26 Red Rocket

27 Taps nice red large tomatoes with great taste
28 Turkey Chomp OMIT, not patriotic enough for me

7 Camp Joy (aka Chadwick Cherry) -- I tried this one a few times. The taste was ok, but production was sparse. I kept hoping for the great taste and production everyone else talked about.

21 Marianna's Peace -- great taste! large, pink, and fairly productive

Aunt Lou's UR: sweet juicy and a winner
Eagle's Beak: one of my favorite hearts, excellent flavor
Marianna's Peace: agree it is one of the best
Turkey Chomp: even though omitted, a nice tomato

I love themed tomato seasons. Lots of good choices. Have fun with it.

Thanks for your imput PaulF. So, many if Turkey Chomp is a nice tomato, I'll consider not omitting it. I'm just looking for feed back to see which are the best tasting from this list. Taste is the number one priority.

Other characteristics are not as important, taste is something I'd like real taste buds opinions on. Don't want the ers!

You must do Aunt Lou's as Aunt Lou was from Ripley, Ohio, right along the river in Brown County
Taste...... many of the locals swear it's the best tomato they've ever eaten.

Thanks, Yes, Barbee Aunt Lou's is one I really wanted to hear about, so happy it is a taste one. If some of them aren't tasty, I won't try them.

So that leaves the following patriotic named tomatoes that no one has commented on as to their taste - from their own experience. I'm not even sure about the one named Blue Ribbon, as I couldn't find one with that name. Is it more of a 'brand name'?

2 Abe Lincoln
3 Alice Roosevelt

5 Blue Ribbon

9 Eagle's Beak

10 Fireworks

12 Firesteel aka The Marine C

13 George Washington

15 Independance Day

16 Lambert's General Grant
17 Liberty Bell
18 Liberty Tree
19 Lincoln Adams
20 Lincoln Gold

22 Maritime
23 McKinley

24 Peacevine Cherry
25 President Garfield

26 Red Rocket

29 Victory
