Which Wild Boar Farms varieties have knocked your socks off ??
I bought a boat load of new to me varieties from WBF a couple weeks ago. I dont think I will be able to trial them all this year. I have trialed BTDH and I really liked the flavor and I also tried Evan's Purple Pear which I didn't like. I know taste is totally subjective but I do also value the opinions of my fellow TV peeps. So which if any have really really stood out to you in the flavor department? I would love to get some of your opinions!

The best (so far to me) has been Pink Berkeley Tie-Dye they were sweet and delicious from the very first to the very last. Black and Brown Boar is also very good. I tried Blonde Boar and found it to be sour and bitter and I really disliked it.

It's funny how tomatoes are different for different people and climates!
I grew the Blond Boar this year and liked it. It did start out a little on the tart side but improved. The best flavor developed from picking it a little early and sitting it on the counter for a week or two until it developed a blush on the underside. Done that way, it became sweet and juicy and was actually my brother's fav in our small taste test. (And it was very productive.) |

I found berkeley tie dye very sour. Loved the black heart. Friends of mine loved pink berkeley tie dye, I am going to try that one next year. Friends also loved beauty king - I liked it ok, but found it a bit mild for my taste.

Berkeley Tie-Dye Pink was one of my favorites last year. It had a great complex flavor, was moderately productive, and was amazing on BLTs. I wasn't such a fan of Brad's Black Heart due to the comparatively low production when held against my other hearts (Kosovo, Wes), but the flavor was good.

Another vote for Pink Berkeley Tie Dye...one of my favorites in the 2012 garden!

And another, I love, Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, also Black and Brown Boar, Pink Boar, Berkeley Tie Dye Heart is gorgeous too. Another vote for Blonde Boar, started off a bit bland beginning of the season but wow when I tasted it later on - packed full of flavour, on my list for this year. Really enjoyed Solar Flare and Spot Yellow last season too.

Aesthetically, all the Wild Boar tomatoes are beautiful. For production, black and brown boar really get going, and are nice for salads. Brad's Black Heart was the best tasting of all that I've grown of his, but didn't produce more than a 1/2 dozen tomatoes.
All the rest I've grown, BTD, PBTD, while gorgeous, weren't the best tasting for me. I see that he has many more on his website, I could see trying some of his others, I like supporting small businesses. |

haleys purple comet has potential to produce heavy late season yield of delicious and beautiful small tomatoes. pink boar is also very good and tasty but hasn't yielded as well for me. evan's purple pear yielded exceptionally well but the flavor was weak to me. i found the deep red flesh color of evans pp and pink boar to be very attractive. I'm not one to take a fancy to stripes and spots.

Two years ago I planted Brad's Black Heart, BTD Heart, BTD Pink, and BTD. The Black Heart was the most outstanding of them all and I will plant that one every year despite not having a huge production. I don't need that and find the consistently excellent flavor too good to leave it out. The BTD Heart was the favorite of friends at a tasting party among all the BTD varieties. The Pink was a close second to the Heart but the BTD was definitely the least favorite. However, considering how differently tomatoes can taste from one season to the other, it could happen that this list would be totally reversed or different in 2013.

I haven't tried many of his yet, although I have PBTD seeds for this year. But last year Porkchop was a delightful tasting tomato that I stumbled upon. And it produced quite well for me, too. Pretty, productive, and palatable - who could ask for more? I'm growing it again.

Spot Yellow did well for me this year, had good production, tasted good, and had a little more disease resistance than "regular".
