For Raybo - Re: Dona
Hi Rayo,
Great to read on other threads that you seem to be doing so well since your stroke a while back! I was wondering, if you're feeling up to it and so inclined, if you could give us a little report on how your trials last spring and summer went with your Dona F1 from France vs the OP Dona. Could you tell much of a difference between the two? Also, how would you rate either Dona against Goose Creek, Odoriko, and Momotaro? I'm working on my tomato plans for the upcoming season here in Merced, and since I've decided to try grafting this year - running controls for the grafted varieties, I find myself running out of space and trying to pare down my list. Since you're the only other person I know growing all these varieties, and whose opinion I trust <g>, I'd really appreciate a review! BTW any other recent or new stand-outs you've grown in the past year? Thanks! Anne |

Hi Anne,
Regarding the Dona trial, I found the Tomatofest OP version of Dona to be very similar to the Vilmorin F1 Dona, which surprised me a bit. On the Momotaro vs. Odoriko, I prefered the Momotaro, even though it was a bit smaller of a tomato. Goose Creek continues to be my overall favorite variety, but Momotaro was a close second, in taste, and productivity. Raybo |

Thanks Raybo!
I think I might skip Odoriko and Dona this year to make room for my new variety trials. Anne |

i tasted a momotaro tomato out of a friends garden and it was awesome. i got some seeds and cant wait for this season. along with kelloggs breakfast and sungold f1 i might actually grow more than 1 momotaro plant.
i also got odoriko seeds...i thought i read they were bigger and more productive, did they lack the flavor of momotaro?

Jeff,
Nothing at all wrong with Odoriko - I just liked the Momotaro. Raybo |
