Daniels RL/PL
I planted some seed given to me and four out of the five are PL and one is RL. Is there a difference in taste, size, etc. between the two? I know this could be a stray seed, but not by my hands.
Thanks

I think potato leaf is recessive, so more than likely, the RL is the odd one in the soup kettle. Cy |

And then click on RL Daniels at the same page, no commercial seed sources for either of them and all Tania says is that the RL matures later in the season, as I read it. I don't know of anyone who has grown the RL and PL ones at the same time, deliberately, so can't comment about that at all. Only the comment Tania made about DTM's. So if you have the room why don't you grow both the RL and PL ones and compare, that is in the same season. I don't know how much room you have and what your other ones to be grown this season are, but if it were me I'd chuck the RL one since it probably got to be RL via a cross pollination, so isn't pure Daniels anyway. The same variety with both leaf types aren't always the same except for leaf form, that we know. Carolyn

I've grow RL for years and it is an excellent tomato.
Would you have any extra PL seeds, I would like to try them?

Daniels is one of the best large pink beefsteak tomatoes. I grow it on average every other year. The original is Potato Leaf, fairly productive, flavor on a par with Brandywine Sudduth, but not as heat susceptible as Brandywine.

I agree. I got my first seeds from a friend and have been growing it for about 5 years. Good producer, fantastic taste.

I "tried" them both in 2009, but late blight did a double wammy, before I could get a taste. Daniels RL is going to several people in the swap.

Would you say it ripens midseason in Michigan or is it later than a Brandywine? Thanks.
