it is a malva (mallow) of some kind. once it blooms I maybe could tell you the variety name. Common mallow is a wildflower (aka weed) but there are a number of ornamental/cultivated varieties as well. I would see what it is before pulling it.

Yes, I have those as well in my yard. Mine is Malva Sylvestris. Here is a link to a site with five photos that resemble the ones I have. http://www.gardenstew.com/plantstew/21840 Just click on it to see the others.
They bloom and bloom and either reseed or come back each Spring. As far as weeds go, they're one of my favorites! |

If you want it there it is a pretty flower. If you don't want it where it is, it is a nasty weed. In my strawberry bed it would have been a pulled dead weed long ago.

They can get fairly large if they like their surroundings. You can always move it if you don't want it to take up all of your container space. I've moved one before and, as I recall, it did fine.
Mine seem to like filtered sun rather than full sun, so if you have a semi-sunny spot that needs a nice filler plant, it might fit the bill! |

The bright side -- Malvia indicates good soil.

Well like I said it popped up in one of my Hydro pots alongside a strawberry. I moved it to a corner of the Ebb&Flow table till I found out what it was as It was unfamiliar. I will most likely let it go to seed and spread a few in an area of yard that has ugly weeds in favor of a pretty weed.
Thanks so much all! -Mus |

It has a deep taproot. I grew them in a parking strip along
the edge of a sidewalk one year. I have had them ever since (they reseed freely up here). Perennial.

Also a great scavenger of deep nutrients, thus considered a beneficial weed. The leaves make good fodder for animals too, high protein. I have been reading up on it since you posted. I like that plant. Can't wait to see pics of it in bloom. please post.
