HELP withFabric Cloth
I need landscape fabric that will last some what more than the stuff at WalMart and would like help in the different types and the best types to use.
Last year I bought some fabric cloth / weed barrier from WalMart paid about $20 for the roll that said it had a 20 year warranty as it was suppose to be the best they had i bought it. I went to the garage this year to get the roll to lay on top of the hardware cloth for a waist high raised bed. Well, I picked up the landscape cloth and it just came apart. I went to a couple of local hardware stores here and one showed me to type they sell and it was a almost felt like material and he also said the type I had gotten was basically plastic. What are the different types and the best types to use. |

Try to find landscape FABRIC made by DuPont. I understaid they have ceased making it but you may be able to find it locally.

If the product "feels like cloth" - keep looking!
You want something that feels stiff - but make sure it is water permeable. Raybo |

I came across some info about grow pot bags that said they can be from felt. Question - sense I am not using to do weed or root blocking - just holding the growing mix and allowing for drainage- would felt material work pros - cons.

John,
My work sells the Dewitt Pro Fabric 20 yr. I think it works very well and will last for a long time. It is very thick and not like fabric more like felt with a strengthening backing. It usually comes in 25', 50', 100', and 300' rolls. The store rockporter linked has it for sale. Just read some of the reviews on their site and you will be sold. Colin |

Thanks Colin for the info I went back and looked at the pro as these are 4' x 8' beds I would have to get the 5' x 250' listed for $156.00 and does qualify to be ship via Standard Ground Service - couldn't find a price for shipping via Standard Ground Service

John,
Are you doing a really large number of 4'x8' beds? If not I'd just suggest to find some of the 3' wide rolls and overlap them/cut one in half to get the needed width for the bed (need a sharp box knife, we do it on landscape jobs a lot). Much cheaper option imho. Amazon has the 3'x100' rolls for about $50 with free ground shipping. Colin |

Yes, I got both landscape cloth and shade cloth from them, I am sold. Buying in bulk saves you money, but make sure you purchase enough to bypass the minimal purchase to avoid the 20.00 surcharge fee. Hey, $20.00 more in product instead of paying more for less, I like it, their prices are very good.
