Now let us put some real figures to this measurement. For the typical gardener with a small area potato production is measured in weight per plant.

So much weight of potatoes per hectare has absolutely no meaning to the small potato grower.

I have been recording potato production by weight per plant for several years. Experience indicates that typical production of a good crop varies from 4 pound to 8 pounds per plant. Anything over four pounds is considered more than adequate.

Now after the weight quality must be considered, which is somewhat subjective.

I posted it only because there is a rumor floating around the Internet that conventional agriculture is required to feed the world. They claim we couldn't grow organically world wide because it would reduce yields and people would starve.

It isn't true. But a very large number of people believe it anyway.

I just think people need to know with modern organic methods you most certainly can grow at least as much food....and in many cases even more...at a far lower environmental impact...and in many cases even improving the environment.
