Default Plant Evaluation Sheet

I've created a tomato Variety Evaluation Sheet to help me keep track of the performance of my OP Tomatoes and Crosses. I can't seem to find a way to link the PDF to this thread, so I've copied and pasted it below. The user guide is below that. If anybody wants it for their own use, PM me and I'll e-mail it out.

Variety Evaluation Form User Guide

• All numerical evalutions go from 1 (low, poor) to 10 (AWESOME)

Variety – Name of variety or parentage of cross Plant # - For segregating crosses or multiples of one variety
F- Filial generation (or just write or circle OP if stable) Seg# - For crosses, total number of segregates being grown
Bed, Row, Position – Where in the garden is the plant located? Source – Where you got the seeds from
Start – Date you planted the seeds. Plant Out – Date of plant out Seedling Vigor – General health of the seedling
Growth – Growth rate over the life of the plant
Fert – Fertilizer used? Interval – Interval of fertilizer application Irrigation – how you watered it
Mulch – what kind of mulch did you use if any?
Grow Location Quality – How good a spot in the garden the plant got (i.e. super sunny, rich soil, or the rocky, shady patch)
Growing Season Quality – Was it a good year conditions wise, or was it rainy, or a drought, or bad late blight etc?
Plant Type – Growth pattern ; dwarf = dwarf, Det = Determinate, Semi = Semi determinate, Ind = Indeterminate
Size – General size of the plant from very small to giant, garden swallowing monster.
Leaf Type – Circle more than one if necessary. SPL= Smooth Potato Leaf JPL= Jagged Potato Leaf RL= Regular Leaf Wis=Whispy Leaf Rug=Rugose Var=Varigated Leaf Atv + +=Stem or leaf anthocyanan. Circle “+” or “++” if particularly heavy.
First Ripe – Date of first ripe fruit. Frost Date – Day of first frost. Low Temp – The temperature of that frost
%Ripe at Frost – Percentage of fruit vine ripened at the date of first frost. Killed? – Was the plant killed by that frost?
General Vigor – Vigor of the plant over it’s life. General Maturity – Ripe date of the maturity of the fruit

Avg Size – Average size of the fruit. Max Size – Size of the largest fruit in oz.
Productivity – General productivity of the plant. Flowers – number of flowers per truss.
Fused Blossoms – Number of fused blossoms. Fruitset – Percentage of flowers that result in fruit.
Heatset – If the plant has noticeably good heatset write the max temp at which they set fruit.
Coldset - If the plant has noticeably good coldset write the min temp at which they set fruit.
Shape – Shape of the fruit. round * * * flat = From truly round to very flat, circle the degree pear = pear shape plum= plum shape Piri= Piriform ribbed= lightly ribbed pleat= Pleated smooth = very smooth fruit, circle if applicable oxheart = heart shaped fruit bellpepper = bellpepper shaped (often hollow) fruit.
Overall Color – Color of the ripe, uncut fruit. If it has green shoulders, note that in “other”. Pink red white yellow (use your descression on the line between white and yellow or circle in the middle) orange gwr = Green when ripe black purple = True purple, not dark pink stripe______/______ - Color of the stripes, background first then color of striping Bi______/_______ = Bicolor primary first
Skin – Skin color with all flesh scraped off (hold it up to the light). Add dull, shiny or pubescent (furry) if applicable
Antho – Is there fruit anthocyanan? How much?
Flesh Color pink red white yellow orange green Bi______/_______ (outer color first then core color)
Texture – Texture of the flesh when you eat it. Avg # of Locules – Number of locules (seed chambers) in a fruit.

Sweetness – From 1 (no detectible sweetness) to 10 (like candy, crazy sweet). Acid – Acidity from 1(no detectible acid) to 10 (like a lemon). Overtones – Primary taste descriptors. Undertones – secondary taste descriptors.
Overall Flavor Score – How much did you like the taste. Save the 10’s (and 11’s) for only the truly, really exceptional.
Overall Fruit Score – Factoring taste, texture. And looks, how good is the fruit?
Disease Vulnerability – Circle if the plant came down with any of the following – BR = Black Rot, BLS= Bacterial Leaf Spot, BS= Bacterial Speck, BW=Bacterial Wilt, DM= Downey Mildew, EB= Early Blight, F= Fusarium Wilt, GLS= Grey Leaf Spot, LB= Late Blight, LS= Leaf Spot, PM= Powdery Mildew, SWV= Spotted Wilt Virus, TB= Tomato Blight, TMV= Tomato Mosaic Virus, V= Verticillium, BER= Blossom End Rot
Disease Resistance – Circle if the plant resisted any of the following while other plants around it succumbed – BR = Black Rot, BLS= Bacterial Leaf Spot, BS= Bacterial Speck, BW=Bacterial Wilt, DM= Downey Mildew, EB= Early Blight, F= Fusarium Wilt, GLS= Grey Leaf Spot, LB= Late Blight, LS= Leaf Spot, PM= Powdery Mildew, SWV= Spotted Wilt Virus, TB= Tomato Blight, TMV= Tomato Mosaic Virus, V= Verticillium, BER= Blossom End Rot
Catfacing, Radial Cracking, Blossom End Scar – Circle if the plant seems extra prone to any of these. Circle “+” if it’s super bad.

Very nice, PaddyMc! I tried to do a similar one for my dwarf project plants last year, but yours has many more categories. You've incredibly managed to cram almost everything imaginable onto one page, and it's very helpful to be able to check off a list, rather than try to remember what to keep track of. Thanks for posting!

Wow! Great reference sheet, PaddyMc.
I am planning to create a simplified sheet for use by (mostly newbie) members of the Grunt & Grungy seed bank.
Anyone wants to share their creation?
I wonder what Tatiana would like to see on the sheet !

Fabulous work! Several years ago I made up similar sheets for ALL of my plants and kept a color-coded monthly log in a thick 3-ring binder. Insane & control-freaky but, very useful for reference. I got over that pretty quickly when real life interrupted. Your sheet is tempting me to revert to my old ways! All the best, Royce
