Orange Patio vs. Patio Orange?
Is this a cherry tomato or a small salad size like Kimberly?
I am thinking of putting some dwarf/small plants in a flower bed in front of my house. So far I have New Big Dwarf, Lime Green Salad, and Sivlery Fir Tree. I am looking for an orange or yellow to go with those and came across Patio Orange listed at Baker's Creek as 2-4 oz, but I've seen Orange Patio listed as a cherry. Are these one in the same? Thanks, Tyffanie |

Ciao Tyffanie,
I got my seeds from Tatiana in Vancouver (thankie thankie) and this is a very dwarf plant with salad-sized fruit. It wasn't hugely prolific for me this year, but just ask Kimpossible, we had more than our share of climatic challenges here in the tundra. It's a fairly vigorous plant, however, and does well in a pot. Cheers!

'Orange Patio' is listed at SSE 2006 Yearbook, and here is the description: Quote:
Julianna, were the fruits red or orange for you?

Tania, I grew Patio Orange from BCH last year and also had red fruit...I contacted them, and they were very good, and said they would replace it if I liked....I told them I would try again as I couldn't be positive it wasn't my mistake. I was just curious if they had other reports of a wrong variety and they said no . I regrew last year but the seedling was sold or given away....Sounds like it wasn't a stray seed if you had it too. My plant was a nice rugose plant and the fruit was pretty good, just red as you noted.
You didn't get the seed from me by chance, did you ? Jeanne |

Jeanne,
no, my seeds are direct from Baker Creek, purchased in early spring 2006. Wrong variety? Let's wait on what Julianna has to say on this topic.

Tania...My seeds were direct from 2005....I remember looking then at what they offered, and not being able to match it to anything else either...

So will the real Patio Orange please stand up! I got some Patio Orange from akgardengirl a few months back and they are saved seeds from 2006. I've been trying to find out more about the seeds so I know what I'm growing.
Any answers appreciated.... |

I hope you grow it out Zeroma. It is a saladette size on a small determinate plant...orangy red in color. I thought I saved some seeds myself but sent them all to you so I hope you save seeds this year! The name I had for it was "Patio Orange".

Okay, so it is an "orangy red" - some of the web sites I found it on said it was 'red', some 'orange'. So now I'll be sure to look for orangy red fruits. Oh I do plan on growing this one. It just sounds the right size for those tight spots in the yard. And I'm looking forward to a good early 'mater. Thanks again for the seed. I'll save some from the crop as well.

Try Chello for a dwarf yellow cherry or Orange Pixie for a salad tomato (2-4 oz).

Patio Orange. Seed Source - Akgardengirl. I grew it in 2009 and saved seed. I even have some of those 2006 seeds left. Sue, if you need some now, I'll get them out to you ASAP. Let me know.

I second Orange Pixie i know it was not what you were looking for. But what you are looking for is orange. Orange Pixie is a great plant productive and tasty.

Thanks Ted but I have my list planned out for this year. I was just hoping that Zeroma would grow it to get some fresh seed. A friend actually grew it out in 2006 and she shared some tomatoes with me. Ted, do you remember the color? As I remember it, it wasn't really a red nor an orange but a combo of those colors.
