Default Termite poison in my garden? Help!!

I have discovered some termites in the basement of my home. They were on the floor, wriggling around and dying. My father-in-law wants to dig trenches all along the outside perimeter of our home and fill them with poison in order to kill any remaining and prevent any new ones. The problem I am having with this is that he wants to dig trenches right through my garden of tomatoes, green beans, onions etc. The garden is about a foot or two away from my home. Will this make my vegetables unsafe to eat? The last thing I would ever want, is for my family and I to be poisoned, get sick or God forbid die from eating poisoned veggies! Please help! Thanks in advance to anyone able to give me some info on this.

I would most definitely move your vegetables. Termite poison is pretty hazardous. If you google sites that sell it, they'll give the same warnings. Heck, one of the most effective poisons for termite control is no longer allowed by the EPA or something like that. Termites is a serious issue and you need to take care of your property and its value before anything else. What kind of stuff s he planning to use?

Lindane, chlordane-type stuff is not for use around anything edible. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it can't hurt you or your family. This is the main reason for planting only decorative plants near foundations. Read on the label how far away to apply the termite poison, and maybe add a little more distance to that. Usually the really good, effective termite spray is only put down by a licensed applicator anyway. Good luck with it. Maybe you can root some branches of tomatoes and peppers into new soil in containers. Beans, greens etc I'd say just pull them and add to you compost BEFORE the poison goes down. Sorry you have to lose part of your garden space, still better than damaging you health.

I believe he is going to use Terminix. Not sure if it is a powder or a liquid.
Moving and/or rooting all of the plants sounds like a good plan. Hoping it won't stunt their growth too much. Of course, I would much rather have stunted plants than poisoned ones O.o Thanks for all of the help, y'all
