Default gargantuan grass hoppers

I just had these vicious hoppers eat a whole bed of collards. They are thick here in Iowa right now.... thousands of them.
I don't like to use '7' but its either that or let them have it all.

I think next fall I will build a screened bed cover to keep them at bay anybody else dealing with them?

My cauliflower leaves are looking like swiss cheese. I do dust them before they start heading up.

I use semaspore in the Spring. Has controlled my problem. Too late now but you might spray them now and use semaspore next Spring

I had some little lemon trees in buckets last year and they were nearly denuded by the things in a day or two. Man can they eat a lot and fast. I used Sevin on them and stopped them. Luckily they don't show up down here too often.

They prefer the bean plants and the tomatoes (the fruit not the leaves) in my garden. I've probably lost 100 lbs. of tomatoes from the damage late this summer. It's gotten to the point that I pick the toms when they show even the faintest blush or by the next day they'll have big holes in them. I have a second garden that basically has only vining crops in it just 50 ft. away and there's almost no hoppers in that one. Neither one has been sprayed since early spring.

How is Sevin on veggies.. toxic? Don't know much about it.
