Default 2013 Tomato Tastings from my garden

I have posted a couple of my tastings from this year on my blog. It was not the best year for tomatoes in my area, but I still got quite a few great tasting tomatoes.

There are lots of photos & my personal taste notes on my blog:

Hi Nicky,

Very nice pictures and descriptions of your harvest. I am curious about your Purple Haze. I got a Purple Haze plant this year from Laurel's Heirloom Tomato Plants http://www.heirloomtomatoplants.com/ . It produced fruit that was considerably different from yours, and was considered still unstable when I got it. I see this year that Laurel is offering a "Purple Haze Homegrown" that she is calling stabilized for 5 generations. The fruit from Laurel's PH is small. Is your plant related to those from Laurel?

Thanks,

Charley

Great Blog Nicky! Very nicely done! Sounds as if you had some great tasting tomatoes this year, even though you had Septoria, as did I.

So sorry that you lost Grizzly. They never live long enough do they? The best remedy for an aching heart is a new puppy and Bosley looks adorable and sounds very smart .

Thanks for sharing your blog.

Thanks guys!

SalsaCharley - last year mine were black cherries - a little large, but definitely cherry sized, the correct plants & most likely close to yours. This year they were not the right tomatoes at all. My seeds were F5, so I thought that I might get the odd incorrect plant. I didn't save the seeds for this year.

Linda - I miss Grizz with all of my heart. Bozley definitely keeps me occupied. Smart??? Hmmmmm... Hyper - absolutely! We won't know how smart he is until he sits still for a minute or two!

Thanks Kath... Your threads are an inspiration!

Yep, as cute as a cherry tomato!

He is a rescue puppy from a litter if 12. 11 of the parents have a group on Facebook and we get together occasionally for a mass play group of wriggling reddish-brown crazies! One of the ladies did a DNA test on her puppy. We knew that the mother was a pure Springer Spaniel, father an Australian Shepherd mix. Grandparents & great grandparents were a mix of Irish Setter (he looks a lot like a setter), Beagle, Poodle, Border Terrier & Parson Russel Terrier! 55 pounds of non-stop insanity and sweet kisses.

Hooray for hybrid vigour!

He looks adorable and is just the right size!

I love it that you are in touch with so many of the siblings owners. What fun

Nicky,

I checked out your blog.

(now I hit you up for some seeds)

A RED Kardia Karpos? I haven't seen that in my trials.

Seed of Angel Heart originated with me, though the variety didn't. I've been looking for this one for a few years. I finally see someone trialing it, and it's in Canada.

Sorry to here Seek-No-Further Love Apple was a disappointment. The pic of the sliced one tells me you have the correct variety

Heshpole will be on my wish list for the tomato swap.

You mentioned Black Beluga lentils in your blog. Would you like some French Blue and Laird (green) lentils along with the beans that I'll be sending? I also have plenty of Black Beluga if you'd like more.

I will send along seeds for the Angel heart & Heshpole. I will just check that there is a Kardia Karpos red version left out in the garden - I didn't save seeds, figuring it was off-type & trying to select pink. Argh! If I have any, I will process & share with you!

I would love the lentils, very popular in the swap (and I would love to try them)!

I think that the SNFLA would have been better in a sunnier summer. I have heard SUCH good things about it

So.. Into the rainy garden I go!

I'll Pm you with all of the info

Labradors2 hybrid vigour!
