Green Pad Jr - for CO2 Generation

Hi,

I came across this product on Amazon that seems pretty useful for seed starting and, especially, grafting.

I was wondering if anyone on the forum has ever tried this product and what you thought of it?

I was re-reading an article by Cary Rivard (Grafting Heirloom Tomatoes for Disease Resistance) and he was mentioning opening the grafting chamber at least twice a day from the start to let in CO2. Seems like you could avoid that with the Green Pad Jrs (and eliminate one - subjective - variable from the process).

Haven't tried the product, but you can generate CO2 in a milk jug of water with yeast and sugar. Use tubing to port into your healing chamber.

Since posting, I've done a little more research and came across some GREAT info on CO2 generation (not surprisingly from a cannabis website). Here's a link to a post describing all the various methods of CO2 generation in great detail, including amt. required;

I tried a set-up attempting to generate CO2 using citric acid and baking soda, along with bottles,water, tubing, etc. just for the fun of it - but it was sort of a hassle. I also thought that maybe you could sort of rub a mixture of citric acid powder and baking soda into something like those doggie potty training pads or hospital bed pads, and the mister or humidifier would activate those - sort of a homemade Green Pad. I also found out that Green pads are actually pretty much the same as the CO2 generating pads that meat packers put in foam trays to keep their meat fresher longer (super cheap compared to green pads, but I could only find them for sale online in minimum quantities of 2000)!

But the bottom line is that I decided just to go with the "breathing method" to generate the CO2. In the article linked above, the author says it would take 70 minutes (not all at once, of course) of a healthy man in a closed environment to generate 1500 ppm in an 8x8x8 (512 cu ft) room. Since my humidity dome/ healing chamber is only about 1.5 cu ft -I'd only need to breath into it a few minutes here and there during the day. So I've just rigged up a removable breathing tube for one of my dome top holes. I can put it through the hole, do however number of breaths required, then remove it and put a rubber stopper in the hole. No need to open the cover.

It's my understanding that the plants like the CO2 during the day and oxygen at night - which would work out great. I've got my humidifier on a timer, so I can run that a couple times during the night to bring in more O2, then do the breathing thing during the day for the CO2.

I know it's pretty much overkill, but I like to play around with stuff !

I'll be be testing things out with a new grafting set up probably tomorrow or the next day....

Hey, is this why people sing to their indoor plants to get them to grow better?

Now what I want to know is,

Should I brush my teeth before or after enriching my healing chamber?
