Greenies
Don't know of there has been a thread on this already..
What would be the fastest ripening green variety - or is there much difference? I know DTM is much debated and does not tell the whole truth. My climate would need a variety that can be expected to ripen within two-three months - before the end of September/beginning of October. Would Absinthe or Malachite Box be reasonable choices? If there is a very early green it would be interesting. Watching tantalizing fruit all summer long is something I had to go through with Black Krim - the first ones were ripe in mid August, and it was really stretching my patience. (The results were well worth the wait, but if I ever grow a green one, it should be earlier).. Oh yes, I have some Green Zebra seeds. But I am thinking of trying an older beefsteak variety some day. |

Lime Green Salad would have to be a contender for fast ripening.

Narnian, I'm at latitude 53'53" - Malachite Box ripens for me, but I find that Grub's Mystery Green is a bit earlier. If you would like some seeds of GMG, send me a pm.

Malachite Box is very early in warm weather, but being where you are Salix is more of an expert. I've found Humph to be fairly early too. I've grown it a few times, but for the life of me, I can't remember if I've grown it in a cool year.
