Default Texas Tomato Cages...Possible order NW IL

I just called and they do not do any wholesale any more. She did say that if you order six boxes then you get a discount of $6.00 per box.

So with that said...I thought that I would put it out there and see if anyown else would be interested in ordering.

Back not that long ago I bought the 6 packs of 2 foot wide ones for $99.99 or something.
The other day I looked and saw the price and almost had a heart attack.
I think it is the rising price of steel that is causing it.
The ones I bought were made in Mexico I think.
I'm glad I bought the 36 cages when I did.

Yup. And I think the price will continue to rise.

On the otherhand, $27 each is price gouging. At the wholesale level on a per-pallet basis they are currently about $10 each.

I bought 4 some years ago for $10 each from someone who had to move in a hurry and was selling her entire garden, plants and all. Best things I ever bought, they are well made and so easy to store; you'd think some manufacturer would've made a similar cage by now for less.
I've looked in vain on craigslist for the Texas cages too, but I think once you have one you keep it forever.

What's really amazing to me are the small circular metal "tomato" cages sold by big box retailers. Most people discover they are too weak for tomatoes -- with good reason! They are manufactured in agriculture for use with beans.

I use a mixture of Texas Tomato Cages and cages made with galvanized fence material with one side left open. 3 TTCs will support 3 or more of the other cages when zip-tied together.

The labor and equipment cost to make these must be extremely high. I could purchase the metal to make 26 of them at the price they charge for 6.

In the future when I have enough money and time, I might experiment with that $90 bender from harbor freight to make a home made tomato cage. It wouldn't be round, but I'm sure it would be much cheaper.

Ugh, i am so disappointed. I need cages that are easy too store being i have hardly any room to store them.

Okay, so I think i have to nix the TTC and move on to something cheaper.

I will just have to find somewhere to store them.

What are my options for DIY?

I like them all every cage has a place.
Texas tomato cages for someone that is a hobby grower and can justify the cost or just 6 or 12 cages.

Florida weave and stakes for people that grow 100's.

Sprawling for folks with a lot of room.
If I were to grow hundreds I would sprawl and/or do the Florida weave.
Texas tomato cages have went so far up in price I wont even recommend them anymore.
It is ridiculous what they cost.

I did the florida weave last year and hated it! ugh. That is why I want to do the cages now.

The thought of reaching in and pulling out a tomato (along with crap from the cage all over my arm) doesn't excite me either.

I am so torn. I almost refuse to pay that ridiculous price.
