Default Green when ripe suggestions?

Just wondering if anything new is out in the last few years. Have tried emerald evergreen but was not to my liking. Tried cherokee green for at least a few seasons (ordered from at least two different suppliers with the same results) and production was spotty, tomatoes tended to be smaller and misshapen, and flavour just wasnt there. Love green giant, always works well for me, but its a very tender and delicate tomato that bruises under its own weight on my counter after ripening, and I was hoping to find one with firmer flesh but with excellent flavour. Thanks.

If you like the more citrusy flavors, you might try Lime Green Salad.

Very productive - see http://picpaste.com/IMG_2319-Lv3cwmfC.JPG

Malachite Box (Malakhitovaya Shkatulka) is my favorite and is on my "grow every year" list. It's wonderfully sweet and a little spicy. For me, it's on the tall side and is very prolific. The plants are tough, and one of the few that did well in the extreme heat last Summer. I've never thought of the fruit as delicate, they hold well on the counter for as long as they last! The photo in my avatar is my son holding our largest Malachite Box from 2013 which was just over a pound. Normally, they aren't that large 8-14 oz maybe. That was a fused blossom!

Aunt Ruby's German Green has been a star in my garden for a few years. I've tried several others, but none beat Aunt Ruby. Although I do like Cherokee Green Grape.

Another vote for Malakhitovaya Shkatulka, flavour is great. I'm also a big fan of Grubs Mystery Green, a real star here. For cherries Green Doctors, Green Doctors Frosted, Verde Claro and Green Pear are all excellent, flavour is tops and nicely sweet.

I have enjoyed the flavor of some of those greens mentioned and can recommend them for flavor. Since there are so many variables affecting flavor and production I would encourage you to keep trying to find a variety that dowa well in your situation. Also keep trying to improve your soil fertility.

I have one you may want to try. It was supposed to be a different variety sent to me in a trade but it came up as a Potato Leaf Green. As far as I know, the only PL green is Grubs Mystery Green but who knows. I just call it My Mystery Green for now. Been growing it for years so it's stable.

There's some pics here on TV somewhere.

Anthony.....as I also garden in Ontario (albeit NW Ont.), my hands down favorite is
Cherokee Green and am giving a third try to Green Giant, Grubb's Mystery Green and
Malokite this summer. I do grow strictly in 5 gal. pails, so maybe that is part of the reason
for our vastly different results. In taking advance orders for seedling here in So. Calif.,
Cherokee Green and KBX were the most requested from past customers.

I love Aunt Ruby's German Green. Not only one of my favorite green but one of my all time favorite tomato of any kind!

Malakhitovaya Schkatulka is nice and early, big juicy fruits but for me they did get a bit soft but I think only because I left them on the plant too long.

I will be growing both of these again this year.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'll do a little research on these varieties and see where the dust settles when its seed ordering time (which is coming up fast...ugh).

Thanks Karen, will let you know...is it similar to GG? Just don't want something too much like that one.

GG = green giant? I have not grown that one. Dwarf emerald giant is from the cross hemisphere dwarf project and I believe Green giant is a parent. DEG is a rugosed potato leaf ind. midseason dwarf. about 4 feet tall in my garden and very healthy to the end of the season. Nice 8 oz smooth lime green beefsteaks for me and quite productive. tangy -sweet rich flavor I found they kept nicely for me and did not find them soft. I think sometimes people leave the GWR fruits too long on the vine as it can be a little hard to tell when they are ripe. go by feel and don't wait for them to get yellow on the bottom or I think they are heading toward overripe
KO.

Spear's Tennessee Green is my favorite. A little more flavored IMHO than Cherokee Green or Green Giant.
Craig did a green when ripe test one year and had over 20 different varieties at Tomatopalooza[tm]. STG was my fave from tasting all these.
