Default obsessive compulsive tomato disorder- OCTD

Going through some of the posts on this site and notice a few with plants in the thousands, some with hundreds many with dozens. I crossed the 50 plant barrier today and my wife thinks I have a problem. What am I going to do with that many tomatoes? I feel I have been relatively restrained. I have quite a few more seedlings I wondering how I can get into containers. Can't help it- so many interesting tomatoes, so little time.

Welcome to the group. Is it not nice to know that you have many kindred spirits here who understand your problem and can verify it will only get worse?

I have the same symptoms. I promised myself I will plant 20 tomatoes of 20 varieties this year... and I just counted what I have put on my 2014 garden plan: 49 tomatoes! Well, I can't l leave it at 49, can I? It's probably bad feng shui... I'm glad you made me count and I just found a reason to make it 50!

1500 pepper plants (126 varieties)...no tomatoes this year because I have plenty dried and made into sauce and salsa. If there is "no rest for the wicked" I am a very, very, very bad girl...

Your not alone. I start about 600 plants and only plant about 50 . I give the rest away. I have a father with a young son who come annually to pick up their share. Also, last year I gave hundreds to a local couple who lease land and operate a CSA. Only stipulation was I got to visit periodically. I got to know the couple pretty well and did some work for them. This year, I'm actually going to plant my usual 50 at home but I am also going to grow all the tomatoes and a few other veggies for the CSA.
You can never grow enough tomatoes.

I always plant around 60. 30 for the gophers, 30 for me.

Fellow addict here. Planning on starting & growing 50+ varieties this year, even though I don't really have space for them. If I carry on like this, in 10 years I have tried 500 varieties. One has to start somewhere, right?

That was my same problem. Had 49 planted and had to cross the threshold. I had to plant 2 avocado trees that were in 10 gallon pots just to get the pots.
