Default Black Cherry vs. Chocolate Cherry

OK, I'm seeking your taste opinion here...

I grew Black Cherry tomatoes (which I love) last year, and am contemplating growing Chocolate Cherry this year. I have limited spots for plants, so I'm only going to grow one or the other.

Which one do you think tastes better?

I have grown Black Cherry, Chocolate Cherry and Brown Berry and that's the order like them in. Most years Brown Berry is rather tasteless, tho it did have a good year the last time we grew it. I also have grown Negro Azteca and it's a good cherry that looks just like Black Cherry but has a bit more of a red cherry after bite that I don't really care for.

Unless you have a bad cracking issue with cherry tomatoes, stick with black Cherry. Chocolate Cherry isn't quite as cracky.

My question exactly, I wonder what's the real difference of the black cherries - differing pedigrees aside. It is confusing to the consumer ...
Is there any 'natural' black cherry in existence, or are all of them intentionally bred by various breeders?

Negro Azteca MAY be a natural black. The heritage is supposed to be from the Aztec Indians. First offered in SSE in 2005 according to TomatoBase.

Black Cherry hands down over Chocolate Cherry, Brown Berry and Negro Azteca here in New Mexico. However, Kazachka compares very well with Black Cherry. It is a smaller plant with larger fruit.
I developed Copper Currant ( Ambrosia Red x l. hirsutum) as an early dark cherry and Petit Chocolate (Sara Galapagos x Rideau Sweet) as a later variety, and they might be worth a try another season.

You may also want to consider Black Opal from the Gourmet Genetics team.

One nice thing about Chocolate Cherry in our climate is that it maintained a nice flavor when nights got cold in the fall. I wasn't too impressed with it during the summer.

Burpee's Napa Grape also tastes good into fall.
