Default My 2014 Grow List Including Germination Info

Here is my grow list for this year, including the germination info. I planted between 2-5 seeds of each variety. The info included will show seeds planted/germinated and how many days to germination for the first and last seed of each variety. They were planted in a 50 cell flat and kept inside until most had germinated and then they went into my garage under grow lights.

First to germinate - Sun Gold in 5 days

Last to germinate - Blonde Boar 20 days!

The ones with the asterisks were planted earlier than the others and I didn't track germination well so no info there.

The majority of tomato seeds germinated in 8-10 days.

Out of 58 varieties planted, there were only 8 varieties in which NONE of the seeds sprouted.

Most of the tomato seeds germinated in

When planting out the other types of veggie seeds, I mixed some worm castings in with the seed starting mix. Within those worm casting there must have been some tomato seeds from my compost because I had many tomato volunteers that poked their heads out among my chives, collard greens, etc. in other flats. They all appear to be a potato leaf variety so I am going to grow a few of those out to see if I can identify what variety survived submerged in my worm bin all year and germinated outside in the cold weather! Some days it got below freezing but the veggie flats were in a small greenhouse type thing with 5 shelves. Those tomato babies are survivors!

Wow - that's an awesome variety of 'maters.
Curious as to how your Amish Paste do and your Thessaloníki.

I am growing Amish Paste as well and my husband is from Thessaloníki (smile).
He will be tickled to know of a tomato named after his home.

Nice list. I have about that many plus I just had a bunch of volunteers come up and I don't have the heart to not plant them. Oh well.

Wow! At my age I don't know if I'll ever grow that many in total in my lifetime!

Sunset Red Horizon 2/3, 7-8 days

%%%%%

Renamed by Gary Ibsen from the original name of Rostova as agreed to by the original folks who first introduced Rostova.

Rostova was a fantastic red beefsteak, I grew it, and for the first two years it was, as seeds from Gary did show, but then it kind of morphed into a heart, reason(s) not known. I sent the last of my seeds to Linda Sapp at TGS I think three years ago since she had initially listed it as a heart, and I don't know if she was able to germinate them.

What was your seed source and please remember to come back and share with us if you got the now expected heart as others have seen.

Thanks,

Carolyn
