Default ACS Certificate in Plant Science?

Anyone have any experience/comments about this distance learning botany program?

I sometimes wonder what the value of certificates in certain specialized fields of study are worth. If you believe the course load or special knowledge taught can improve your knowledge, go for it. If the offered certificate has some special value in Poland, go for it.

In the United States, certificates of specialized education normally are only the minimum requirement for licensing in some trades at a beginners level. Some form of degree beyond the certificate level is usually required to advance in the trade.

I have had friends in the past who were graduates of the University of Warsaw in Engineering when Poland was still part of the Soviet bloc. Their engineering certificates were equal to or better than engineering degrees from qualified programs in American universities.

History is weird like that; Texas being a part of Mexico and now becoming part of Mexico again.

Anyone else, experience with this cert program?

I just read the link and noticed the course is based in Australia.

If it's for your own personal use I see no problem, but I wonder about acceptance in other countries. And also offering it as expertise in plant science since they state quite clearly the other careers for which it might be useful.

I didn't click on individual courses, but the curriculum I do see one would take in a college offering a BS degree in plant science, but there would be other required non plant science courses also required for a BS degree.

Again, for your 0wn personal knowledge it might be useful.

Very good point, Carolyn. Thanks.

I am thinking I will stick to auto-didacticism for now, unless anyone recommends the other way.
