Seed Swaps?
Hi - I have been trying to research this through the search function of the site but I would LOVE to have anyone let me know if there will be any seed swaps this fall through Tomatoville (like the mostly mystery mater one, or the swap Heather used to organize?). If anyone is FOR SURE going to run one, can you give me an idea of the window? I'd love to participate here rather than looking elsewhere.
I haven't posted here much but I have read posts here a few times a week for the last year. I have tried seed swapping through other forums, like Reddit, but they have been very unsuccessful for me. I have sent out dozens of envelopes, only to receive one or two back. I have started fermenting seeds this week from my harvest which is beginning and have over 20 varieties that people might be interested in. I just want to know if I should continue saving, just in case? I would love to try some new-to-me varieties without the investment of a whole pack. Thanks Last edited by LindyAdele; August 22, 2014 at 10:32 AM. |

Not sure about Heather's, but I believe Tormato's 'mystery mater swap' is in the formulative stages right now...I have participated twice, and can't wait for the next one...well worth it.

okay, Thanks! I will watch here and save my seeds to participate.
I have had great luck with two 'newer' varieties (Blush and Blue Berry) that were both phenomenal tasting, crazy productive and hardy plants. I thought people might especially like seeds from some of these, so I am saving lots. If anyone else knows what type of tomato seeds are appreciated in these sort of swaps, I'd love to hear it. I think I'll save seed from all my plants just in case, but I don't want to send in unwanted seed. |

Outside of 'Yellow Pear', unwanted seed shouldn't be a concern.

Got it. Haven't grown it, and won't send it in.

I saved a lot of seeds from my Chinese yellow pear, Chang Li. It's one of my favorite varieties. I think people who dislike the common yellow pear will enjoy Chang Li.

Awe c'mon yellow pear is a cute tomato, easy for beginners, prolific and children like the mild taste
Having said that, no I don't need any seed for it Somebody just needs to cross it with sungold and it might be the best cherry in history K |

Uh yeah, as long as it doesn't taste like a yellow pear.

It does have a cute shape, and it looks delightful in a bowl with red cherry types. But I prefer my Ildi.
So....what tomato seeds is everyone looking for? What is in high demand? |

I grew up with Yellow Pear growing wild in my neighborhood like weeds. I didn't know they had a name, but they tasted great. I've never grown them intentionally and sometimes wonder if they would taste the same to me today as they did when I was a child.

IN addition to any swaps there are many TV members who make outright seed offers, usually via SASE's,no trades wanted, in the Trade section of the Seed Exchange, the Wanted subforum being exclusively for that.

Carolyn,
Thanks! I will keep my eyes out and watch for that! There are SO many varieties I haven't tried, even with my smallish garden I plant 8 old favourites and 8 new tomato plants each year. I have some ideas, but have decided the 8 new ones will be determined by what comes out of swaps and trades. |

Sure. I have a lot. I should probably test germinate some, though. This was my first year saving seeds. I used Oxy Clean.
