Honey dew melon seeds?
Ok I admit it I’m lazy,
I have never grown honey dews before and my brother wants to grow them. He told me he was going to plant the seeds from one that he got from the store. I must admit he is a little more than ignorant about this practice and the whole thing about OP and hybrids. But I am trying to help him the best I can and he is darn near computer illiterate. When he looks for something he looks on eBay. I do love him though and want to find a (good honey dew) that is not hybrid and I haven’t a clue as to what the best choice would be, any help will be greatly appreciated. Worth |

The TAM-Dew they list was produced by them ( Texas A&M ). I have not grown it but have tasted it and it was quite nice and the green flesh was very nicely coloured. Since you are in Texas it might even turn out better for you then it does for us up here.

Ice Cream Green Machine Muskmelon
Worth, I attended the Appalachian Heirloom Seed Conservancy Fall Conference in October and during the Round Table Discussion the Market Growers were praising this great little melon. Merlyn Niedens was there and reported how pleased folks were who grew it! Merlyn says that they cut the melon in half, remove the seed and serve a large scoop of ice crean in it for the ultimate desert!

I'm growing Green Machine/Ice Cream next summer. I'm short on space so that's part of the reason I chose it. I've grown Jenny Lind in the past and wanted to stick with the small size and green flesh but I'm looking for something that'll produce a little more. I hope this is it.

I was only going to mess w/one melon variety next year since it's a new garden and all -- and Charentais is the choice. (Not really a honeydew type, though.) |

blue, I am not that knowledgeable about melons by any means, but I tend to think of Charentais as more of a cantelope type or close in classification to that type (because it is smaller and orange fleshed), and not a honeydew type (usually smaller and green fleshed).

What we call cantaloupes in the US are actually muskmelons. The nice thing about muskmelons is they are usually self-picking. You go outside one day and they've released themselves from the vine. Of course you'll probably detect the intense aroma from 50 yards away before you see them. Apparently, honeydews are a type of muskmelon. Harvesting Melons: How do you know when a melon is ripe?

I have not had a charentais melon. But I would imagine if you dislike the flavor of muskmelons (American cantaloupes) then you might not like the flavor. Could be wrong.
