Anything taste like Sungold in larger size?
I did a search and saw Big Sungold Select and some others but what I saw said those are not as sweet. Is there anything equivalent to Sungold in taste that is larger in tomato size?
Thanks Ginny |

I grew the big sun gold select and i loved the flavor. In my experience it was pretty close to sungold. It definitely found a home in my garden as my favorite large cherry. Not to mention the massive trusses it puts out.

A similar question asked before and here's the link to that thread, which is well worth reading IMO and yes Big Sungold Select is also discussed.

Thanks for the info. Doesnt look like there is anything larger that tastes the same from what I read. Maybe I will grow two sungolds next time. I kind of wanted enough at one time to try some recipes I found for sungolds but I currently dont have enough ripening at one time to try any of them out.

Orange Pixie to me has a taste really close to Sungold. The fruit is about the size of a Ping Pong ball or 2-3 bites. The problem is it's a dwarf plant so never gets those hundreds of fruits at 1 time. But it does produce quite a bit for a small plant.

Orange Banana is a paste that many, including me find similar to SunGold. Not that big, but bigger than SunGold.

Does it involve cooking them? As for OP varieties similar to SunGold's flavor, I've never found anything close. 2015 will hopefully be a trial of SunGold vs. Ambrosia Gold vs. a SunGold F4 selection (that made it into the experimental category of the MMMM swap). Gary |

There are some Sungold tomato recipes that I have stumbled across. Some involve cooking and some don't. Problem is the Sungolds don't last long enough to go into a recipe around here so I was looking for something the same but larger.

Two or three plants of SunGold would hopefully solve the problem of not enough fruit at one time.
I've made "quick" sauce with SunGolds, back in about 2005. The superb flavor of the raw tomato just doesn't do it for me when cooked. I can't imagine leaving the seeds in, like in one or more of the cooked recipes. Even sliced Sungolds in a tuna melt wrap is nearly repulsive, to me. Raw by themselves or in salads, so far, is how I like them. Gary |

There was a recipe of SunGold pasta sauce that was supposed to be heavenly (yes, the one posted by Fiishergurl).. . But, not enough ripe ones simultaneously, so perhaps I can try with Orange Bananas next year - have seeds for those, and am really curious. Yay!

Cherry tomatoes have a lot of trouble making it out of my garden. Seems they keep disappearing into my mouth when I'm out in the garden. I suspect this problem will be even worse when I plant Sungold next summer.
