Default The Never Ending Heart Tomato Question

So we all know the question of what is the best heart tomato has been asked a gazillion times and you would think it would be easy to make a decision based on the existing replies but alas it is not. Or maybe I am just a little slow on the uptake.

Anyways, hoping some of you lovely people will be willing to help narrow down next year's garden choices. Wanted to add a poll to make it simple but can't find the option to add one to this post. Crap, that slow on the uptake might be true. lol

I already have seeds for Cour Di Bue, German Red Strawberry, Brad's Black Heart, Anna Russian, Hungarian Heart, German Orange, Verna Orange, and Golden King of Siberia (the last variety is not accurate but it is how it was sold to me). Thank you for any help in narrowing this list down. Hope all is well and that this message reaches you in good health and good spirits.

The hearts I am trying to decide on are:

Bobbie
Japanese Oxheart
Fish Lake Oxheart
Green Bush Italian
Kermit
Kosovo
Little Lucky Heart
Mayo's Delight
Nicky Crain
Orange Russian 117
Prue ( Not really a heart? )
Reif Red Heart
Russian 117
Ukrainian Heart (TNMUJ strain)
Wes

Welcome to TomatoVille! I'm REAL fond of German Red Strawberry. Tastes wonderful and pretty productive. Also Fish Lake oxheart is a real winner. I am trying Joes Pink Oxheart this year. Have not grown any of the others.

I'm going to grow Mayo's Delight and Red Oxheart this spring because Tville members gave them to me to try. There are a whole lot of Oxheart loving Tville members here.

Mostly I'm replying to say, Welcome to Tomatoville.

I don't even see Grightmire's pride which is my personal favorite. I tried Hays' yesterday, it was delicious. I also love Fish Lake, but not as much as GP. If you look it up on Tatiana's it was her fav tomato one year.

Never met a heart tomato I didn't like.

Welcome to Tomatoville and I vote for Mayo's delight and Fish Lake Oxheart from your list

I grew Wes last year. It was very productive and produced some really large fruit. It was good, but not great for fresh eating, but a bit too juicy for canning, although most did go through the mill and into the pot. I think if you enjoy sweeter/milder tomatoes, you may like it.

I'm hoping to grow Russian 117 if I get seeds in my swap package. I received incorrect seeds for it last year, so I'm really hoping to try it next year.

Welcome to Tomatoville. If you will use Cour Di Bue to make fried green tomatoes, I think you'll find it makes the best Fried Green Tomato you've ever tasted. Claud

Anna Maria's Heart won my heart last year as my pink heart of choice. Next summer, Wes and George Detsika's Italian Red are going to duke it out to see which is the best red heart. I am also looking forward to trying Orange Russian 117 as a bicolor heart.

I grew Reif Red Heart this last season. Had very good flavor and production of 1 lb. tomatoes all season.

I grew Wes, Kosovo and both Russian 117. I would recommend them and I plan to grow them again this coming year.

I would recommand Fish Lake Oxheart, Reif Red Heart, Kosovo and Wes. Prue is also very tasty but it's not a heart.

I've found out recently that there are two strains of Prue, one with smaller oblong pointy fruits, the other with bigger rounder tomatoes. I grow the latter, and it's delicious, a favourite here. Not oxheart shaped, but the wispy foliage is characteristic.

Orange russian 117 is amazing, really special in looks and taste.

But I was really disappointed with cuor di bue, it was very prolific here but very bland all through the season. I turned it all into tomato sauce...

Linette, actually there are not two strains of Prue. It turns out that on one plant one can get all sorts of shapes and sizes and that's the way it's always been with this variety. See the pictures in the link below.

http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Prue

My seeds from Tom Galucci, the original source, and Tom is a member here. You'll also see that I was the source to several of those who reported on it at Tania's page for it.

I offered it in past seed offers here, also SSE listed it and also sent it to several seed vendors for trial.

I love it. It's one of the few varieties that I can ID just by taste and aroma alone.
