Give me a tomato...
Since you guys are so smart and experienced ...please give me an early or mid tomato that is fair sized (no cherry or beefs) with what you consider a good taste, fresh eater, and productive. I tend to like the seedy/gel filled maters best....but am open. I have germinated a bunch of large/late seeds already. thanks PS I am certainly open to a dwarf...but don't know much about them.

Ed, I like Porter tomatoes, but they are smaller in size. They grow in high heat, high humidity, extremely low humidity, and I eat them one after the other. Kind of like Pringles - you can't eat just one.
But a safe bet for early-to-mid medium/medium large tomato = Celebrity. Huge plant, a lot of tomatoes that taste really nice. Not too sweet, not too acidic. When I get into crossing, I plan on one of those two being one of the parents. |

Ironic you mention celebrity. Wisconsin 55 has replaced it in my garden. We preferred the flavor and texture over celebrity, it also was a bit earlier.

thanks for input...the Wisconsin 55 does look interesting to me! Medium size, productive, good taste, and all-around tomato. My Celebrity was a diseased mess last year (I don't have much disease). I did plant it late. I still bet it is a good one...and will try again. Any determinate ideas?

My favorites from last year were Cosmonaut Volkov, Dwarf Tasmanian Chocolate, and a medium-sized red slicer from China called Ten Hung Tan Chieh.

I like Maya & Sion's Airdrie Classic (it's a stable cross of Stupice and Brandywine). It's early, tasty and it keeps going strong until frost. I second Tasmanian Chocolate, it's really prolific and very tasty too, althought not as early as Maya & Sion's. Ed, I could send you seeds of either, PM me if you'd like.

Here's three that I like a lot, and two of them appear frequently on such lists. First is Stupice, my favorite early one. Second is Jaunne Flamee, a delightful orange one. Third, and perhaps the least known or mentioned of these thee, is Belyi Naliv, one of my favorites from last year, with a wonderful, complex flavor.

Sioux is a great producer for me; pretty good in the taste department too.

Eva Purple Ball for an OP, Super Sonic for a Hybrid. But, they are above "good taste" to me.
