Default Need some help with huge "Giveaway" #1

Because of a long list of medical reasons, I'm not able to grow as many varieties in one year as I used to do. And, because I can't stand to waste anything, I am forced to do a large giveaway of tomato seeds. This will involve at least two giveaways, and the first is ready to ship. It consists of more than 300 varieties.

This offer is open to members within the lower 48 states. The package to be mailed is too large to risk other addresses outside of the CONUS.

This first group consists of seeds that are from 2 to 6 years old. A few will only have a few seeds in the packets, but a few dozen will have more than a dozen seeds. Many will have more than 50 and some will have several hundred. An ideal recipient for this bunch will have good germination techniques and the capability to grow more than 50 varieties each year. I will ask that you share as much as possible with other members here at Tomatoville.

If you're interested, PM me and tell me why I should choose you. It'll cost you nothing. I'll cover the shipping to anywhere in the continental US. Again, I'm sorry, this is too much to send to other countries (it'll be about the size of two shoe boxes side by side.)

Good luck to any who are interested.

I would love to have them all but why not have 6 groups of 50 and make more people happy? To make it more interesting dont tell what you are sending the winners or you could send me the whole batch. I will take some and send the rest out.

And why not consider posting your offer in the seed subforum called Trade, where offers not asking for anything back go?

Just a gentle suggestion.

I believe you people are missing the point. Ted wants this large portion of his collection to go to someone who will grow these varieties out and share them with our Tomatoville members. It's a big responsibility keeping this many varieties going. And, you must have the space to grow a major portion each year. Broken Bar gave away a large collection as a whole and so did Grunt. You should honor Ted's wishes and quit trying to tell him what he should do.

Ted, I hope your health improves. May you enjoy many more seasons of growing tomatoes. Thank you for offering to "pass the baton" as it were, to someone who will appreciate your treasure.

Dust,I thought I was being helpful in suggesting he also post in the trade subforum, if not, I apologize to Ted.

A person at SSE asked me to donate my seed collection to SSE and I never answered him for I have other plans when that time comes.

Actually, Carolyn, I posted it here because this is forum is seen by the "lurkers", and I thought it might be a small incentive to get more of them to join.

I broke out the listing so that "everybody" could see it. That list is not complete!!!! There is so much more and some commercial packets that are not necessarily tomatoes.

I've had seven responses so far and will wait for one more day to choose. I want to give as many as possible a chance.

Remember this. There will be one more giveaway of tomato seeds, most likely in the fall. It will be about as many varieties as this first giveaway.

Thanks to all for your interest and concerns about me. I'll be okay. I just have to scale down my outside activities. I'm past 70 years old now and the old body just doesn't work the way it used to. (Actually, it still works the same way, just not as fast, nor as often.)

Ted, I would offer a PM if I were younger and healthier. Oh, and had a longer growing season.

Okay, I have chosen the recipient. It will be HeirloomTomaguy. I had a few folks PM me to recommend that I select him. I'll be contacting the other folks who asked to arrange for them to receive a consolation gift.

This offer is now officially closed.

Thanks to all for your interest, and especially your kind words of concern.
