Others sized like Jaune Flamme/Kumato

Hi all-

I'm looking for a couple of tomatoes similar in size to Jaune Flamme and Kumato. This is the size we tend to enjoy the most. I am already growing Jaune Flamme. I'm looking for something with better flavor than Kumato though.

Thanks for any ideas!

We grow one called Pink Boar from Wild Boar Farms. Great flavor, unique look. We seem to have a mutation of Pink Boar that gives us little heart shaped tomatoes.

Also from Wild Boar Farms are Sweet Carneros Pink, and AAA Sweet Solano. Both are pretty and very tasty. Others in that size range are Matina and Bloody Butcher. I have also grown Maglia Rose and Blush that are more elongated and are great tomatoes IMHO. Tatianas has a listing of smaller varieties that you might find helpful.

I second pink boar; its got deep flesh color and excellent flavor.
and I'd add:

Jolly f1 (let these ripen fully)
Haley's Purple Comet (not usually early or high yielding but maintains quality late in season if septoria doesnt take it down.)
Mountain Magic ( has good disease resistance)

I like that size also. This year in addition to Jaune Flamme I am growing Black and Brown Bear, Super Snow White, Bulgarian Triumph and Lime Green for a colorful mix, Oh and large Red Cherry too.

Stupice is a darn tasty red one in that size category, and it's early too!

Bloody Butcher is early and tasty.
Native Sun is a tasty early yellow tomato.

I'd go with Bloody Butcher, as others have said. Green Zebra Cherry is really large for a cherry and as prolific as can be. It tastes better than regular Green Zebra.

IME, Black Apple is a good substitute for Kumato. It isn't outstanding IMO, but I personally like it better and it has had near perfect fruit set and smooth blemish free fruit that hold well on or off the vine.

Someone mentioned Sweet Carneros Pink.....I really liked it the one year I grew it for flavor and production, not to mention looks.

Green Zebra Cherry is very large for a cherry, but not quite up to the size if either you mentioned.

Here in the south, I've had terrible success with the Boar series, having tried pink, blond and one other that I can't remeber. If you want an elongated type of similar weight, another Wild Boar tomato that I did enjoy was Trenton's Tiger.

Sweet Carneros Pink - impressive production and very pretty.

Carmello was also about that size for me and very productive.

I haven't made a list, just looking at what others have to say but Linda mentioned one of that size that I think is outstanding, and it is, drum roll please:

You can see that fruit sizes are a bit different for different folks, but that depends on many variables, and in my heirloom tomato book I said 2-4 oz.

Super Snow White was bred by Joe Bratka and I do consider it to be a cherry and not that different from Snow White, Ghost and Rabbit, all small ivory/whites that he also bred.

Carolyn, who has yet to meet a variety from Bulgaria that she doesn't love.

Sooner or later I get around to growing many of the FAVs in your book Carolyn I know how highly you regard Bulgarian Triumph and am looking forward to it.
