Default How do you 'read' Tomatoville threads?

I always always ALWAYS click on the "New Posts" in the middle of that top bar. It shows all the threads since my last visit.

I imagine some people target specific forums and only open those forums to read the posts under them?

Other methods ??

I used to target specific forums. Now I check new posts.

I use Tapatalk on my iPhone or iPad, and always go to the "Unread" option which gives me all the new posts since my last visit. The only time I use a PC anymore is at the office.

I click on each section of forums and go down each thread to see what interests me. If I have time I go back through threads in a section so I can see what I missed of knowledge given from past years.

First , the topic has to be of some interest to me.
Then, I read the opening post. Again, if it is of interest me, I read the other posts.
Third, if the discussion is interesting to me, and I have something to say, I post a comment.
From there on I go to the comments posted after mine own.
From there on, if I see that I have no audience, I would just go about my business and not to waste my time and others as well.

Now that I have more time to answer, as I replied above, first is new posts. I try to always look at the wanted varieties section. I look for things that are interesting to me, and I try my best to remember to look at threads I have replied to. There are so many friends here that I look for things they post or start threads about. Sometimes, I look at the newcomers first thread to welcome them to Tomatoville. I am bad about forgetting to look at birthdays. I look at the things Worth starts threads about because they always turn out to be interesting (Even if the thread name is "Most Boring Thread Ever") lol. And then there is Carolyn, if she has replied to a thread - I know there's a good chance I'm going to learn something new and useful. By now, I'm sure she knows I respect her opinions.

Most commonly I read via "new posts". I've never browsed a specific forum. I also commonly read via "Subscriptions" -- just in case I missed a reply to a reply.

I rarely read any post who's title mentions bugs, diseases, fertilizers, or named varieties. I don't have experience with those kinds of things, and don't expect to in the future. So I have little to say about them, and little to learn that would be applicable to my garden.

I skip any post who's title isn't related to gardening.

Then I read posts that seem interesting... General plant breeding, but not specific projects, photos of people's gardens,

I never use "new posts". I start in general discussion, scan the thread titles to see if anything looks interesting and take it from there.

I usuallly pop into T'ville via a subscribed thread. Read that, then go to the index page and see what's the latest in the forums. If there's anything new in the breeding forum I'll read it, and I usually go to general discussion and see what's new. I don't often read the other forums unless there's something in the 'latest post' that I think I should read. That is how I read on an ordinary day when I don't have a lot of time, unless there's something specific I'm looking for info on.

I've never used "new posts". I may try it. I only follow a few forums and read the topics that interest me. I follow the links back to subscribed threads.
